Assists in managing and/or supervises employees involved in construction, design, maintenance, survey, laboratory activities and/or office operations. Reports to the Area Engineer, who has full authority for approval of all work. Responsible for the operations of the area office in the absence of the Area Engineer. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.Assists Area Engineer in projecting personnel and equipment needed for each project as required responds for emergency situations/conditions to assist with office activities.Conducts pre-construction, Employee Forum and/or safety meetings.Determines quantities and estimates cost.Inspects roads, monitors maintenance activities and coordinates scheduling of maintenance work with construction projects.Monitors traffic control plans.Plans and schedules work of construction personnel and/or provides them on the job training.Prepares and/or recommends field changes and supplemental agreements.Prepares and/or reviews monthly and final estimates and final construction reports.Resolves public complaints.Reviews plans prepared by area office personnel; checks designs, specifications and estimates.Works with governmental officials on behalf of the Area Engineer.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Assistant Area EngineerAssists in directing area office operations. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum QualificationsLicenses and Certifications :Valid driver's license at the time of application.
