Job Description:

A Ph.D. or D.B.A. in accounting or a related discipline is required by August 1, 2027; ABD candidates will be considered, provided the degree is conferred before that date. Prior university-level teaching experience, professional accounting experience, and involvement in relevant professional organizations are preferred but not required. The teaching load is five sections per academic year. In addition to the introductory financial/managerial course, the successful candidate will be prepared to teach advanced courses including federal income taxation or managerial accounting. Successful candidates are expected to excel at teaching at the undergraduate level, mentor and advise students, conduct original research leading to peer-reviewed publications or publication in outlets valued by active members of the profession or contribute to their discipline in other significant ways. Duties also include service to the department and university. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate the ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and contribute to Furman's commitment to expanding access and opportunity to Furman's rich learning culture. The successful candidate will also be eager to develop high-impact engaged learning experiences for undergraduates, including directing research, mentoring, and directing students in course-related projects in the community.

The Business and Accounting Department offers bachelor's degrees in Accounting, Business, and Finance. Within the Business major, students select a track in Entrepreneurship, Marketing, International Business or Business Administration. The department also participates in interdisciplinary minors in Data Analytics and Visual Strategy, as well as community engaged courses. There are currently 10 full-time business and accounting faculty members. The Joe & Diana Hurley Finance & Business Analytics Lab provides students and faculty with access to Bloomberg terminals, and Capital IQ. Faculty receive research support and have access to statistical analysis tools such as SAS, STATA, SPSS, and ArcGIS, alongside institutional subscriptions to The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg news.

Applicants should submit the following documents as a single PDF in the order listed: a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy and interests, statement of research, and complete contact information for three references. The statement of teaching philosophy and interests should describe your inclusive teaching and mentoring efforts, broadly conceived, and how your teaching and mentoring may contribute to a liberal arts and sciences community that aims, among other things, to "honor inquiry, promote diversity, [and] strive for equity" (FUture Focused). You may also discuss any relevant professional development, service contributions, or other experiences that have refined your skills or demonstrate your efforts in these areas. While detailing your specific teaching interests, discussion of your prior course experience and any industry background that can be leveraged to enhance classroom instruction and student mentorship is welcomed.
