College for Health, Community, and Policy (HCAP)

UT San Antonio's College for Health, Community and Policy trains students to develop solutions for complex social issues to improve the well-being of our communities. By engaging directly with the City of San Antonio and other key community partners, students and faculty live the colleges mission to advance human health every day. The college is comprised of seven academic departments and one program -criminology and criminal justice, kinesiology, nutrition and dietetics, psychology, public administration, public health, social work, and sociology and demography -as well as the Center for Community Based and Applied Health Research, the Institute for Demographic and Socioeconomic Research, and the Institute for Health Disparities Research. Department

Department of Psychology

The Department of Psychology, located in the College for Health, Community and Policy, hosts one of the largest majors on campus (over 2,200 students) and offers degree programs at the BA, MS, and PhD levels. Students at each level have opportunities to assist in faculty research. Our 23 tenured and tenure-track faculty and 7 full-time teaching faculty represent many of the traditional subfields of Psychology and bridge between areas. Psychology faculty have a history of collaboration with researchers at the UT San Antonio Health Campus and the STRONG STAR Consortium, as well as various industry and community partners, including TX Biomed, Pearson Testing Company, US Army Research Institute, Veterans Administration, San Antonio Military Medical Center (including Brooke Army Medical Center), and the Institute for Army Surgical Research. Salary Range: Up to $90,000/Annualized, commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.

Position Summary

The University of Texas at San Antonio (UT San Antonio) invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor position beginning in Fall 2027. Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. (doctorate awarded by 8/1/2027) in Developmental Psychology or in Human Development and Family Studies with expertise across the lifespan, including infancy, childhood and adolescence, adulthood, or aging. Although the priority is to hire a Developmental Psychologist, applicants with a focus on Social and/or Cognitive psychology are also encouraged to apply. The position involves teaching within subdisciplines across all degree programs, including a BA, experimental MS and PhD programs, as well as a proposed PhD in Clinical Psychology.

Successful candidates will demonstrate: (1) a solid research agenda, clear plan for external funding of their research program, commensurate publication record at the Assistant level, as well as a track-record of current funding at the Associate level; (2) demonstrated ability to excel in undergraduate and graduate education, training, and mentorship; and (3) potential to develop collaborative relationships with new and existing faculty members both within and across the department's programs.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. degree in Psychology or Human Development and Family Studies.
  • An appropriate research and teaching record for appointment at the rank for each position (for those seeking appointments with tenure, this is contingent upon Board of Regents' approval).
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of first-generation and low-income urban populations.
  • Applicants for an Assistant Professor position must earn a Ph.D. degree by August 1st, 2027, and must demonstrate strong potential for excellence in research and teaching.
  • This position may require the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.

Preferred

  • Demonstrate evidence of a commitment to collaboration in research, teaching, and service endeavors.
  • Strong record of external funding and experience in interdisciplinary research, curriculum development, and/or program development/management.
