Founded in 2022, the Jacksonville University College of Law received provisional approval from the American Bar Association in 2024. The College is building a student-centered law school committed to academic excellence, professional formation, and service to Jacksonville and northeast Florida. Faculty members have a meaningful role in shaping the curriculum, institutional policies, scholarly culture, and traditions of a growing law school.

Job Summary
Jacksonville University College of Law invites applications from entry-level and lateral candidates for one or more full-time, tenure-track faculty positions for the 2026-2027 academic year. Appointments may be made at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, depending on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience.
The College has particular interest in candidates prepared to teach bar preparation, including JU's required three-credit bar preparation course; legal writing; Contracts; Corporations; and other transactional courses. Because the College expects to grow its faculty substantially over the next several years, however, applications are welcome from candidates in all areas of expertise. Flexibility to teach across the curriculum will be highly valued, as will experience with the ABA accreditation process and enthusiasm for the opportunities and responsibilities of building a new law school.
The successful candidate will teach courses assigned in light of curricular needs and the candidate's expertise; develop and maintain a productive scholarly agenda; advise and mentor students; participate actively in faculty governance and institutional service; and contribute to the College's academic program, professional community, and continued development. Faculty members are also expected to support the University's mission and to engage constructively with colleagues, students, alumni, members of the profession, and community partners.
This is an in-person faculty position. Faculty members are expected to maintain a regular and substantial on-campus presence during the academic year and to participate in person in teaching, advising, faculty governance, College programming, and other institutional responsibilities. The successful candidate must reside in the Jacksonville metropolitan area, or within a reasonable commuting distance of the College of Law, by the beginning of the appointment. This position is not eligible for a fully remote work arrangement.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a J.D. or equivalent law degree. Tenure-track candidates must demonstrate, or show strong promise of, excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. Relevant considerations may include academic record, professional experience, scholarly potential or achievement, teaching experience and effectiveness, and the ability to contribute to the College's mission and institutional development. Candidates whose experience warrants appointment at the rank of Associate Professor should demonstrate accomplishments appropriate to that rank. Candidates who prefer a non-tenure-track position focused primarily on teaching and service may indicate that interest in their cover letter.
How to Apply
Applications should include (1) a cover letter, (2) curriculum vitae, and (3) a list of three professional references. Candidates may also submit other materials they would like the committee to consider, such as a scholarly agenda, writing sample, teaching statement, syllabi, or teaching evaluations.
Applications and questions may be emailed to lawhiring@ju.edu. All candidates invited to interview will also be asked to submit application materials through the Jacksonville University employment portal. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position or positions are filled.
Diversity and Inclusion
