Position Overview
The University of South Carolina School of Medicine, Columbia invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor (tenure-track or research-track), specializing in Brain Health. We seek MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent clinical/scientific candidates whose research program focuses on neural mechanisms underlying brain health, disease prevention, and recovery, particularly projects with high translational or clinical relevance.
Active clinician\u2013scientists are especially encouraged to apply, as this position emphasizes direct clinical engagement. Successful candidates will hold privileges within the Prisma Health System\u2014most notably at Prisma Health Richland Hospital, a Level I Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center, which also serves as USC's primary teaching hospital in Columbia.
Clinicians will be expected to participate in patient care, teaching, and mentoring within the Brain Health Network clinics and in the soon-to-open Brain Health Center, integrating research with high\u2010impact clinical practice.
The MD/MD\u2013PhD hires will practice within the Prisma Health System via their USC faculty appointments, engaging in outpatient and inpatient care, overseeing clinical trials, and forming multidisciplinary teams across sites. USC neurology group regularly conducts stroke and movement\u2010disorder trials, providing a robust platform for NIH\u2010style clinical research and enhanced translational impact. This integrated framework\u2014spanning clinical practice, education, and research\u2014ensures that clinician candidates contribute meaningfully to patient outcomes, medical education, and high-profile brain health science.
