Responsible for supporting and/or leading athletics communications, media relations, digital storytelling, publicity, and brand promotion for the athletics department. Partners with coaches, student-athletes, media, and campus partners to enhance visibility and engagement.
Description of Duties
Supervision Received
General supervision from assigned supervisor.
Supervision Given
Direct supervision of assigned staff.
Required Education
Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or sports management or a related field from an accredited university.
Preferred Education
None.
Licenses/Certifications
None.
Required Experience
Three (3) years of professional experience in athletics communications, media relations and/or sports marketing including previous administrative and supervisory experience.
Preferred Experience
Experience obtained in a NCAA Division I or Division II institution.
Equipment
Use of standard office equipment.
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Some travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

Must be a person of integrity with high educational standards while exhibiting a strict adherence to NCAA, conference, university and department rules and regulations as well as a solid commitment to academic integrity and student-athlete welfare. Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong writing and editing skills. Outstanding interpersonal and public relations skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse community and wide range of constituencies, including the corporate community and institutional marketing personnel. Ability to work under the pressure of very tight deadlines.
