About the Job

UMD Athletics is seeking an Assistant Athletic Trainer with primary sport assignments of volleyball and softball including providing assistance with the athletic training coverage for 16 varsity sports requiring evenings and weekends. The incumbent will utilize organizational skills to manage athletic training students, athletic training facilities, and supervise inventory. The incumbent will work directly with the team physician and other members of the health care network.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Delivers athletic training services to members of the intercollegiate athletics teams as assigned, by the Director of Sports Medicine Services, including but not limited to, coordination of physical exams, evaluation and treatment of injuries at both traditional and non-traditional practices and games, design and supervision of rehabilitation programs, and practice/game preventative techniques.

  • Provide direct athletic training coverage to teams assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine Services.
  • Refers injured athletes to appropriate physicians according to guidelines in the Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Communicate usual and customary information with coaches of assigned teams.
  • Serve as preceptor for the Athletic Training Education Programs.
  • Supervise athletic training students in the daily operations of the athletic training facility.
  • Prepares annual injury and treatment reports for assigned sports.
  • Exhibit behaviors in strict compliance with the NATA Code of Professional Practice.
  • Utilize technology within an athletic training setting.
  • Performs other duties not specifically stated herein but deemed essential to the operation of the athletic training program as assigned by the Assistant Director of Sports Medicine Services.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree.
  • Certified by the Board of Certification (BOC) and Minnesota State licensure eligible.
  • Experience in athletic training programs and/or with rehabilitative equipment.
  • Demonstrated strong written communication skills.
  • Team travel that will also include overnight trips.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MA/MS degree.
  • A minimum two years working as a certified athletic trainer in collegiate athletics.
  • Experience traveling with collegiate athletic teams.
  • CPR/FA Instructor.
  • Demonstrated strong oral and interpersonal skills as a healthcare provider.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $50,000 per year; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 100% Appointment
