Job Description Summary

Organization''s Summary Statement:

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore invites applicants to apply for a full-time, twelve months, exempt, position. Reporting to the Head Athletics Trainer, this position is responsible for the preventive, emergency and rehabilitative medical care of the varsity athletic team member. The Assistant Athletic Trainer, with input from the Head Athletic Trainer and the Assistant Athletic Trainer and the physicians will be responsible for determining the wellness and ability of the student-athlete to return to participation. The position involves working weekends, evenings, holidays, and travel with collegiate athletic teams.

Salary Range: $55,000 to $70,000

Responsibilities:

  • Provide first aid, injury assessment, treatment, prevention, and

rehabilitation to all student athletes and administer basic and prudent first

aid to visiting student-athletes upon request.

  • Apply appropriate taping, wrapping or protective equipment to ensure safe

athletic participation.

  • Work with the Head Athletic Trainer and the Assistant Athletic Trainer in the

day-to-day work within the Athletic Training Room.

  • The Assistant Athletic Trainer, with input from the Head Athletic Trainer and

the Assistant Athletic Trainer and the physicians will be responsible for

determining the wellness and ability of the student-athlete to return to

participation.

  • Provide on-site treatments and rehabilitation programs for injured student

athletes.

  • Maintain accurate and current records of athletic injuries and treatments

rendered.

  • Compliance with all federal and state laws regarding the confidentiality of

student athlete information.

  • Assist the Athletic Training Staff and the Sports Performance Staff in

developing rehabilitation programs for injured student athletes.

  • Maintain a clean, functioning, and orderly athletic training facility.
  • Maintain continuing education units for certification/licensure
  • Collaborate with the UMES Health Center for medical concerns.
  • Maintain current Maryland State licensure by the Maryland board of

Physicians.

  • Maintain current National Athletic Trainer Association/Board of

Certification Licensure.

  • Compliance with all university, federal and state laws regarding the

confidentiality of student athlete information.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Preferences:

  • Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, Kinesiotherapy, sports medicine or other

field related to athletic training OR a PhD or MD related to sports medicine,

Kinesiotherapy, or Kinesiology.

  • Current BOC certification and must be eligible for Maryland State Athletic

Training License.

  • Must possess detail-oriented skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, organizational and planning,

prioritization, problem solving, follow through, time management skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be flexible and possess the ability to successfully handle multiple

tasks/projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to work well under pressure, independently, and in a team-oriented

environment.

  • Knowledge of NCAA and conference rules.
  • Knowledge of NATA rules and regulations.

Physical Demands:

  • May require extended periods of standing, bending, sitting at desk.
  • May require lifting.
  • Requires communication with a variety of constituents externally and

internally.

  • Requires operation of a variety of office equipment.

Licenses/ Certifications:

  • Must be certified CPR/AED/First Aid prior to or one month after hire

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Two (2) years of experience as a certified athletic trainer in a collegiate or professional sports organization.

Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Knowledge of injury prevention and rehabilitation.

Skill in oral and written communication.

Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Suite products.

Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.

Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service
