Shenandoah University's Department of Athletics is accepting applications for an Assistant Athletic Trainer. This is a full-time benefited position located on our main campus in Winchester, Virginia.

Responsibilities:

  • Applied Knowledge: Athletic trainers must have knowledge of a large range of medical problems. Assessment, evaluation skills, and working with other healthcare professionals will be required.
  • Decision-Making Skills: Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and return-to-play decisions per state licensure guidelines.
  • Attention to Detail: This should be thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation with an electronic medical records system. Assist in coordinating and scheduling medical coverage for practices and events.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate eGectively in high-stress/pressure situations when talking to student-athletes, medical professionals, staG, and families.
  • Must have the ability to organize, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision.

Specic Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Onsite care and management of injuries and illnesses include prevention, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation.
  • Assess the risk of injury, perform ergonomic evaluation and coaching, self-care implementation, and overall wellness promotion.
  • Electronic documentation of all student-athlete encounters.
  • Coordinate and implement injury prevention programs and preventative strategies and programs customized to each student-athlete.
  • Minimize the risk of injury through awareness, education, and prevention strategies.
  • This position mentors those students in the graduate athletic program and supervises those students participating in the federal work-study program.
  • Follow the NATA Code of Ethics as well as understand and follow HIPAA and FERPA regulations.
  • Remain current on all Virginia state and national requirements for license renewal.
  • Agree to comply with all University, ODAC, and NCAA bylaws and legislation.
  • Other duties and secondary duties as assigned by the supervising head athletic trainer for the operation of the athletic department and/or the athletic training department.

Required Skills

Required Skills:

  • CPR/AED Certification for Health Care Professionals/First Responders
  • BOC Certification
  • Current License to Practice as an Athletic Trainer in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • NATA Membership
  • Good standing with the Athletic Trainer Board of Certification and the Virginia Board of Medicine

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor''s degree in Athletic Training; Master''s degree preferred
  • Experience with a variety of sports
