Description

The Assistant Manager oversees the operation of the assigned coffee stand or mobile truck, assuring high quality standards, training staff and participants, and providing supplemental case management to participants. This is a high visibility position that positively impacts customers and provides work skills to individuals who may not otherwise be employable due to lack of experience and resources. (ex., those who have aged out of the foster care system). This includes at risk-youth and young adult internship opportunities, while fostering a trauma-informed workplace that exercises patience and understanding for participants learning on the job. The Assistant Manager will monitor and follow policies and procedures for operations including inventory, supplies, customer service, and compliance with Washington State Department of Health.

Responsibilities:

Operations

  • Provide hands-on training and daily supervision to youth and young adults (ages 15-25) employees and participants in all aspects of coffee stand operations.
  • Prepare and serve coffee, tea, and specialty beverages according to established recipes and quality standards; ensure all staff and participants consistently meet these standards.
  • Operate, handle, and maintain all coffee stand and coffee truck equipment properly and safely. This includes driving the mobile coffee truck to the designated event or location, following all operating and closing procedures, and ensuring the truck is cleaned and prepared for safe storage until the next event.
  • Deliver excellent customer service by responding to orders, questions, concerns, and complaints in a polite, professional, and efficient manner.
  • Accurately process cash and credit card transactions while following established cash-handling procedures.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels by stocking supplies, ordering back stock, and ensuring the coffee stand remains fully operational.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety, and sanitation standards, and enforce adherence among staff, participants, and volunteers.
  • Develop knowledge of menu offerings and contribute to drink specials, themes, and promotions to support sales and customer engagement.
  • Schedule staff, participants, and volunteers and ensure adequate coverage during all posted hours of operation.
  • Develop and implement community-focused marketing strategies to increase brand awareness and promote business growth.
  • Champion Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives by fostering an inclusive, respectful, and equitable workplace culture.

Training & Participant Support

  • Provide structured training on operational procedures, customer service, and job readiness skills for staff, participants, and volunteers
  • Collaborate with at-risk youth and young adults to support essential life-skill development through mentoring, internships, and supportive case management
  • Provide supplemental, goal-oriented case management tailored to individual intern needs and personal objectives
  • Collaborate with team members and case managers to identify effective strategies for supporting youth and young adults
  • Informally evaluate staff and participant performance through verbal feedback and written reports, as requested by supervisor
  • Accurately document participant contact, outreach activities, and case notes using appropriate computer systems
  • Track and manage participant stipends accurately and in a timely manner
  • Identify skill gaps and recommend additional training opportunities for individuals and teams.

Administrative & Other Duties

  • Track inventory, update spreadsheets, and process inventory invoices accurately
  • Assist with financial oversight, including tracking daily sales, monitoring cash handling, and reporting discrepancies
  • Manage and maintain social media pages to support marketing and community engagement
  • Support menu development and updates
  • Maintain POS system functionality, troubleshoot issues, and train staff on system updates as needed.
  • Collaborate with coworkers to recruit participants and promote a positive, efficient, and supportive work environment.
  • Recommend new processes, efficiencies, and continuous improvements to supervisor.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development as required or recommended by supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

Physical Requirements:

This position normally requires the physical demands of standing for long periods of time, walking, bending, lifting (up to 30lbs) or performing other work requiring medium to high physical exertion, talking and hearing and adequate vision on a continuous basis to perform the job's essential requirements.

Non-Physical Requirements:

Education

  • High school diploma/GED preferred.

Experience

  • One year of work experience as a barista required.
  • Two years of experience in retail, hospitality, and/or customer service experience preferred.
  • One year of experience leading a team and providing training preferred.

  • Basic mathematic skills (addition, subtraction, percentages
  • Ability to problem solve quickly
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Ability to work at a fast pace and multi-task while maintaining accuracy.

Licenses, Registration, Certification

  • Valid Washington Food Worker Card within first 14 days of hire.
  • Valid Washington State driver's license and required minimum liability insurance for WA State
  • Must be deemed insurable as determined by Catholic Charities' liability insurance provider
