The Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in all aspects of the assigned athletic program, including recruiting, instruction, supervision, organization, and student-athlete development. Coaches are expected to support academic success, student conduct, and overall student-athlete engagement. Coaches may also be assigned additional institutional responsibilities and may be required to assist with College events and activities as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Recruit and supervise student-athletes with integrity and professionalism.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and comply with all National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC) rules and regulations.
- Assist in monitoring class attendance and academic progress toward graduation.
- Monitor student-athletes' conduct and behavior in the classroom, student housing, and at college-related events both on and off campus, and apply appropriate discipline when necessary.
- Assist with room checks, curfew enforcement, and academic support programs for student-athletes.
- Assist the Head Coach in planning, organizing, and conducting practices while providing quality instruction and conditioning.
- Assist with coaching responsibilities during practices and matches.
- Supervise and organize equipment rooms and related operations.
- Assist with film editing, film breakdown, scouting, and film exchange.
- Assist the Head Coach with match-day preparations, including receiving and assisting visiting teams.
- Assist the Head Coach and Dean of Students/Athletic Director with drug screenings, medical claims, and insurance documentation.
- Assist the Head Coach in coordinating physical examinations for student-athletes.
- Secure all facilities following practices and matches.
- Monitor athletic facilities and promptly report maintenance needs or issues to the Head Coach.
- Assist the Head Coach with athletic program statistics and recordkeeping.
- Attend local and state athletic meetings as required.
- Participate in institutional fundraising activities and assist in identifying fundraising opportunities for the College's athletic program.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
