    WEST VALLEY JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT

    JOB OPENING: WVJH BOY'S WRESTLING COACH

    NAME OF POSITION: JUNIOR HIGH BOY'S WRESTLING COACH (ASST)

    PRIMARY FUNCTION: To serve as an assistant coach of the West Valley Junior High Boy's Wrestling Program, including 6th, 7th and 8th grade boys.

    THIS POSITION IS DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO: West Valley High School Junior High Athletic Director and Principal

    Dates Activity Starts and Finishes (approximate): Jan. 4 to Feb. 27 (Winter 2 Sports Season)

    Weeks per season/year: 8

    Total number of days required with students: 40

    Number of hours per week with students: 10

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Number of students under your supervision: 20-30

    Equipment Procurement: No

    Equipment Care, Maintenance and Inventory: Yes

    Duties: Attend coach's meetings, practice session, matches as scheduled. Organize and conduct practices and games, providing Athletic Director with copies of practice schedules and plans. Assist in articulating and enforcing WVSD and WIAA rules/regulations for athletes. Properly supervise school equipment and facilities usage. Teach and model the highest standards of conduct and sportsmanship during practices and contests. Promote the entire interscholastic program of the school and direct the program in harmony with the total school program. Be thoroughly acquainted with the contest rules and ensure that your athletes are aware of them as well. Maintain WIAA coaching standards and work toward becoming a master coach. Emphasize safety precautions, and be aware of the best training and injury procedures. Attend meetings as called by the athletic/activities director. The pre- and post-season (evaluation) meetings are required as part of the coaching contract. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Credentials: Current First Aid/CPR card required.

    Education: 4-year degree preferred

    Experience: Previous wrestling experience at the high school level required, college preferred.

    Previous wrestling coaching experience in secondary school/comparable community program within the past 5 years preferred

    Personal Qualities: The ability to work with student/athletes and their parents in a professional manner. The successful candidate will work to instill the highest desirable ideals of character and ensure that the welfare of each student/athlete is always held in the highest regard. The candidate should have the ability to be an independent, critical thinker as well as a team player. The ability to plan practices, events, and organize all the necessary materials and persons to carry out the sport/activity is highly valued. Must be able to meet scheduled responsibilities for practice, coaching preparation, competition, and related activities and a consistent basis.
