    Position: Assistant Bus Mechanic available the 2026-2027 School year

    Reports to: Head Bus Mechanic & Supervisor of Transportation

    Contract: 261 Days

    Pay Grade: Per Negotiated Agreement

    Qualifications/Requirements:

    • Valid driver's license.
    • High school diploma.
    • Must pass a written test specific to job requirements, prior to employment.
    • Commercial vehicle maintenance work experience or training.
    • Meets all mandated health requirements.
    • Documentation of a clear criminal record.
    • Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies.
    • Meets all bus driver minimum qualifications when physically qualified (I.E., including a CDL with a school bus endorsement.
    • Valid Ohio Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with School Bus endorsement, however, the district will consider a candidate without a CDL with the understanding that they will get the Ohio Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with School Bus endorsement within a 6 months period of time.
    • Ability to comply with safety regulations and environmental laws.
    • Meets all qualifications to be covered by the district's insurance carrier.
    • Available to respond to service emergencies.

    Essential Functions:

    • Helps manage the district's ongoing vehicle maintenance program.
    • Upholds board policies and follows administrative procedures.
    • Promotes a favorable image of the school district.
    • Supports community partnerships that enhance district programs and services.
    • Learns the operating and maintenance procedures for all district vehicles.
    • Complies with safety regulations and environmental laws.
    • Inspects, services, repairs and/or rebuilds equipment.
    • Inspects and tests vehicles to ensure safety.
    • Reports irregularities and equipment abuse to the Head Bus Mechanic and Supervisor of Transportation
    • Makes road calls when vehicles become disabled.
    • Fill in to drive school related routes before, during, and after the school day.
    • Assists Head Bus Mechanic on emergency service trips, as needed.
    • Pick up and deliver buses that are to be serviced.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens.
    • When appropriate, help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
    • On a consistent basis, wash exterior, interior, and under-carriage of buses as directed by the Head Bus Mechanic and Supervisor of Transportation.
    • Must have a knowledge of preventive maintenance and regular servicing of buses, to include, but not limited to changing tires, changing oil, replacing filters, lubricating fittings - as directed by the Head Bus Mechanic.
    • During specific seasons, spray the buses with disinfectant as directed by the Head Bus Mechanic.
    • Conduct other duties related to the school bus mechanic's duties as assigned by the Head Mechanic and Supervisor of Transportation.

    Working Environment:

    The Board of Education and administration will provide a safe and healthful work environment pursuant to applicable state and federal regulations. The individual in this assignment is expected to follow all applicable safety rules and is to report any concerns with regard to his/her working conditions to his/her immediate supervisor.

    From time to time the individual in this assignment may encounter hazardous working conditions which may include, but not be limited to, the following: Exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue; operation of a school bus under inclement weather conditions; interaction with children, who may be unruly.
