Assistant Center Director - Childcare and Preschool
Location: The Learning Experience - Gaithersburg, MD
Salary: $54,000-$58,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications
Schedule: Full-Time, Monday-Friday
The Learning Experience - Gaithersburg is seeking an experienced Assistant Center Director to join our early childhood education leadership team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a childcare professional ready to grow in leadership while making an impact on teachers, children, and families. Working alongside the Center Director, you'll help oversee daily operations, develop teaching teams, support enrollment, and maintain a high-quality preschool environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with the Center Director to support daily childcare center operations
- Coach and mentor teachers through classroom observations, feedback, and professional development
- Assist with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, scheduling, and staff engagement
- Maintain appropriate classroom staffing and ratios
- Support implementation of The Learning Experience's L.E.A.P. Curriculum
- Maintain compliance with Maryland childcare licensing, health, and safety requirements
- Support licensing documentation and staff records
- Conduct center tours and build relationships with prospective families
- Support enrollment growth, family engagement, and retention
- Build positive relationships with children, families, teachers, and staff
- Assist with day-to-day administrative and operational needs
- Step into classrooms and provide leadership support when needed
- Foster a positive culture focused on teamwork, accountability, and exceptional customer service
Qualifications
- Must meet applicable Maryland requirements for a leadership role in a licensed childcare center
- Previous professional experience in a licensed daycare, preschool, or early childhood education program required
- 1-2 years of childcare leadership, management, or supervisory experience preferred
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field preferred
- Knowledge of Maryland childcare licensing requirements
- Experience coaching, mentoring, or developing teachers preferred
- Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working with both current and prospective families
