Primary Purpose:
Provide students with an opportunity to participate in extracurricular choir activities and ensure compliance with all state, University Interscholastic League (UIL), and district requirements. Plan activities to achieve district, region, state goals and recognition.
Qualifications: Education/Certification:
- Bachelor''s degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of overall operation of vocal music program
- Knowledge of state, UIL and TMEA policies governing vocal music
- Support district philosophy, policy, and procedures
- Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
- At least three years teaching and music directing experience.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as may be found appropriate and acceptable to the administration.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Direct high school choir performers.
- Assist in establishing performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student''s eligibility to participate in choir.
- Assist in providing for choir participation at extracurricular events, including concerts, football games, pep rallies, parades, and UIL activities.
- Assist in arranging transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town events.
- Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, UIL rules, and board policy in the band area. Support choir booster club activities.
- Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to determine program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responds to student needs.
- Participate in recommending policies to improve choir program from grades 6-12.
- Participate in providing leadership in the planning and execution of individual departmental performances.
- Assist in coordination of fundraising activities.
- Assist in maintaining current inventory of all fixed assets within department.
- Assist with the process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all choir equipment.
- Provide assistance to the fine arts director and teachers in coordinating instruction with other areas of the curriculum.
- Assist in developing district wide teaching schedules for your department.
- Assist in the development and implementation of plans for vocal music program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.
- Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect an understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Apply and enforce student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Accompany and supervise students on out-of-town trips.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
- Maintain professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members
- Perform all other duties as deemed necessary by fine arts director or designee.
