Position Summary:
Primary function includes misdemeanor prosecution in the Prescott City Court. Assists City Attorney on civil matters as assigned.
Essential Duties:
- Performsthe duties of the Assistant City Attorney in the Criminal Division as a
- prosecutor.
- Resolves misdemeanor prosecutions and municipal code violations.
- Performspre-trial work and discovery; conducts officer and defense interviews;prepares motions; and contacts victims.
- Prepares and participates in court proceedings, hearings, mediation, and trials;arranges for and attends depositions.
- Prepares and drafts letters, memos, and pleadings regarding litigation, settlements,plea bargains, and negotiations.
- Researches, interprets, and applies laws.
- Works on appeals.
- Renders oral and written legal opinions on matters affecting the City's legalinterests.
- Maintains current knowledge of legal trends and current case law relevant tomunicipal government.
- Organizes, interprets, and applies legal principles and knowledge to complex legalproblems.
- Observesinformation and conditions affecting the City's legal interests to helpdetermine compliance with the law.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
Juris Doctorate degree from law school accredited by the American Bar Association; any prior criminal law experience preferred.
Licensing, Certification, and Other Requirements:
Hold active membership, in good standing, with the Arizona State Bar Association.

- Skill in negotiating effectively and persuasively in both oral and writtencommunications.
- Skill in using applicable computer software.
- Strong desire to serve the community through prosecution of criminal offenses.
- Ability to draft documents relevant to legal matters.
- Ability to respond quickly and efficiently to various types of cases assigned.
