ABOUT THIS POSITION
Summary:
Colorado Mesa University is seeking two qualified applicants for Assistant Clinical Professor of Nursing positions. The standard teaching load is 12 course credit hours per semester or 24 credits over an academic year. This position seeks candidates with at least two years of medical-surgical and/or critical care nursing expertise. Experience in critical care settings, such as ICU, Emergency Department, or Telemetry, is highly preferred. This position carries ongoing responsibility for curriculum development, planning, teaching, guiding, monitoring, and evaluating student learning in the classroom and clinical practice settings to support continuous improvement of courses and clinical experiences.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
Willingnessto teachacross nursing programsbased on departmental needs.
Teaching theory, laboratory, and/orclinicalcomponentsin nursing education programs.
Teachingand evaluating assigned courses.
Supervising student performance of clinical skills in the lab and/or clinical settings (clinical faculty-to-student ratio is not more than 1:10).
Promotingpositive and productive relationships with service areahospitals, clinics, and agencies.
Participatinginprogram, department, and universityassessmentand accreditationactivities.
Participatingin academic advising and guidance of students
Attendingprogram anddepartment faculty meetings.
Providing studentswithadetailed coursesyllabusin writing,following CMUNursing guidelinesand timelines.
Establishing, posting, and keeping a minimum of five office hours weekly over four days during each term of the academic year.
Establishingnecessaryprocedures toensurethat adequate andaccuraterecords of student performance aremaintained.
Developing andmaintaining:
An active scholarshipportfolio(for tenure-track Assistant Professor), or
Ongoing professional productivity and clinicalexpertise(Assistant Clinical Professor)
Providingservice to theprogram, department,university,and external community.
Participatingin program, department, and university events including commencement.
Maintainingtimelyand satisfactory performance of responsibilities specified in the faculty member’s employment agreement and CMU Professional Employee Handbook.
Salary:

EDUCATIONANDEXPERIENCE:
Qualifications
Eligible for or holdinga current license ingood standingto practice as a Registered Nurse in Colorado.
Minimum oftwo years offull-timeprofessional clinicalnursingexperience, with preference given to candidates with experience in critical care settings (ICU, ED, Telemetry)
Graduate degree innursingfrom anational accredited school of nursing.
Demonstrate knowledge and skills related to:
Adult learning principles
Teachingmethodology
Curriculum development and evaluation
Or a written plan for obtaining such knowledgebeginning no later than the first year of teaching.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpretprofessional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions fromstudents, colleagues, and community partners.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages,ratiosand proportions to practicesituations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collectand analyzedata,establishfacts, and draw valid conclusions.
