Description

Assistant Athletic Coach

Reports to:Head Coach/Athletic Director

Evaluated by: Head Coach

Classification: Supplemental Part-Time Position

Supervises:student-athletes, team support personnel (managers, statisticians)

Job Summary

Assistant athletic coaches help the head coach with instructing student-athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. They provide student-athletes with instruction that will lead to the formulation of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline and self-confidence.

Qualifications

Experience in the particular sport being coached is preferred as well as experience working with high school students.

Kansas Professional Teaching license is preferred, but not required

Required Knowledge & Abilities

Possesses a knowledge of all School Board policies and athletic regulations approved by the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA).

Knowledge of the sport being coached.

Ability to connect with and drive student athletes to success.

Performance Responsibilities

Acts as an extension of the head coach.

Assists in maintaining discipline, and works to increase morale and cooperation within the school sports program and school community.

Understands and complies with the KSHSAA rules.

Assists in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled sports events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility times

Works within the basic framework and philosophy of the head coach of that sport

Teaches fundamentals of the sport as outlined by the head coach

Assists in supervising student-athletes before and after practices and contests of the assigned sport

Shares accountability for the proper maintenance and cleanliness of sport equipment and facilities.

Required Qualifications Possesses a knowledge of all School Board policies and athletic regulations approved by the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA).
