Rainier High School is seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and dedicated Assistant Boys Basketball Coach for the upcoming season. The ideal candidate will support the Head Coach in building a competitive, disciplined, and positive basketball program that emphasizes skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and academic achievement within the Central 2B League.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Player Development: Assist in planning and executing daily practices, skill development workouts, and game strategies for both Varsity and Junior Varsity levels.
Game Day Operations: Assist with bench management, game scouting, statistical tracking, and strategic adjustments during Central 2B League and non-league contests.
Mentorship & Culture: Model strong character, integrity, and leadership. Help maintain high standards for academic performance, conduct, and team culture on and off the court.
Program Support: Assist with equipment inventory, video breakdown, team travel logistics, and youth program engagement as directed by the Head Coach.
Safety & Compliance: Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, locker room transitions, and bus travel. Ensure compliance with all WIAA, Central 2B League, Rainier School District, and high school athletic policies.
Qualifications
Experience: Prior coaching or competitive playing experience at the high school or collegiate level preferred.
Basketball Knowledge: Strong understanding of fundamental basketball concepts, defensive/offensive schemes, and player development techniques suitable for 2B high school competition.
Communication: Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with student-athletes, parents, school staff, and community members.
Availability: Must be available for weekday afternoon/evening practices, evening games, and weekend commitments throughout the season (November through March).
Other duties as required/assigned.

10 week contract

Valid first aid/ CPR Card
Previous coaching experience specific to position
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, parents and community
Willingness to maintain and improve knowledge through regular course work and clinics
Meet the WIAA coaching standard criteria
Must pass a state and federal background check
