Position Title:

Assistant Coach, Cheerleading

Time Type:

Position Summary and Qualifications:

Under the direction of the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach will be responsible for implementing skill development programs for the Cheerleading program. This is a part-time, 12-month position with the majority of duties being performed September through April with other duties as needed in the off-months.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assume the duties of the Head Coach in their absence.

  • The Assistant Coach is expected to be at practices, men’s and women’s basketball games, competitions, alumni events and fundraising events.

  • Provide instruction in team concepts and sports etiquette.

  • The Assistant Coach is always expected to exhibit strong leadership skills.

Secondary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist with planning, marketing, and executing of team fundraisers, alumni events, and parent activities.

  • Be familiar with the University’s Student Code of Conduct and other institutional policies and guidelines that establish expectations for student behavior and activities.

  • Work with the Head Coach and administrators to stay within fiscal and budgetary guidelines.

  • Provide advice and assistance to the Head Coach to help solve challenging and difficult situations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Minimum 5 years of demonstrated effective coaching experience with a collegiate or competitive cheerleading program (or a combination of coaching and relevant experience)

  • USA Cheer certification

  • Knowledge of the rules and safety regulations of the sport of cheerleading

  • Knowledge of all styles of cheerleading (NCA, UCA, STUNT, ect.)

  • Knowledge of various social media platforms and experience creating social media content preferred

  • Administrative skills such as prioritization, organization, and budgeting are needed.

  • Must be self-directed and motivated and be able to work independently and work under pressure.

  • The successful candidate will be subject to a motor vehicle record check, and other University require background checks.

Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:

  • Frequent evening and weekend hours required

  • Occasional day time hours

  • Some travel required
