POSITION: Assistant Coach for Winter Cheerleading

Putnam High School is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and safety-certified individual to join our Varsity Cheerleading program as Assistant Coach for the winter season. We are looking for a committed coach to work under the direction of the Head Coach to foster a positive, competitive environment, support crowd spirit at basketball games, and assist in preparing student-athletes for the winter competition season.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Support Head Coach: Assist the Head Coach with planning, organizing, and executing daily practices, game days, and competitions.

• Coaching & Instruction: Help conduct safe practices focusing on stunting progressions, tumbling, choreography, and conditioning.

• Game & Competition Management: Assist with student-athlete supervision and performances at winter athletic events (e.g., basketball games) and regional/state competitions.

• Player Development: Mentor student-athletes, monitor academic progress, and support holistic student growth.

• Logistics & Supervision: Directly supervise student-athletes during all team activities, travel, and events, ensuring safety and policy adherence.

• Administrative Tasks: Assist with uniform inventory, equipment management, and maintain clear communication with the Head Coach, athletic staff, and parents.

• Safety & Compliance: Ensure adherence to all school, district, and athletic association rules and regulations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• CT Certification 600: Interscholastic/Intramural Coach or eligibility for certification required
• First Aid/CPR Certification
• Demonstrated knowledge of cheerleading fundamentals, stunting safety progressions, and crowd leadership strategies.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to inspire and motivate student-athletes while supporting academic excellence and holistic student development.
• Ability to pass a comprehensive background check.

RATE OF PAY: $2,350 for the 2026-2027 School Year (* season runs November March)
