    Job Description

    The Assistant Men's & Women's Cross Country and Track & Field Coach supports competitive programs that promote student-athlete development, academic achievement, retention, and athletic success. The position assists with practices, competitions, recruitment, team travel, program administration, fundraising, and community engagement while representing Flagler College professionally. All responsibilities must be performed in accordance with College policies and applicable conference and NCAA Division II rules.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's degree
    • Four years of collegiate athletics experience.
    • Ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required and travel for competitions and recruiting.
    • Valid driver's license and ability to meet College requirements for operating College vehicles, including passenger vans.
    • Ability and willingness to understand and comply with College, conference, and NCAA Division II policies and regulations.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Four years of collegiate cross country and/or track & field experience.
    • Experience recruiting, coaching, developing, and retaining collegiate student-athletes.
    • Working knowledge of NCAA Division II rules, recruiting practices, and eligibility requirements.
    • Experience with training-plan development, meet operations, team travel, fundraising, or program administration.

    WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Work is performed in office, training, and competition environments, including outdoors in variable weather and on uneven terrain. The position requires regular travel and early morning, evening, weekend, and holiday work. Essential functions include driving passenger vans, observing and demonstrating athletic activities, prolonged standing and walking, bending, reaching, and lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds.

    • Teach, train, coach, and instruct student-athletes in cross country and track & field techniques, conditioning, race strategy, and individual development.
    • Assist with developing and implementing safe, organized, and effective practice plans, training programs, and team activities.
    • Recruit qualified student-athletes who demonstrate the academic preparation, athletic ability, character, and institutional fit necessary to succeed at Flagler College.
    • Evaluate prospective student-athletes and assist with recruiting travel, campus visits, communications, records, and required documentation.
    • Coordinate recruiting activities with Admissions, Financial Aid, Athletics Compliance, and other College offices as appropriate.
    • Assist with competition scheduling, meet preparation, transportation, lodging, meals, equipment, and other team travel arrangements.
    • Attend practices, competitions, team meetings, recruiting events, and other program activities as assigned.
    • Promote student-athlete academic progress, personal development, retention, and timely graduation.
    • Communicate professionally with student-athletes, families when appropriate, and College personnel regarding program expectations, student support, and eligibility matters.
    • Follow established emergency procedures and coordinate with athletic trainers and other authorized personnel when injuries, illnesses, or emergencies occur.
    • Assist with program administration, including recordkeeping, equipment and uniform management, facility coordination, budget documentation, and required reports.
    • Support fundraising, alumni engagement, community service, promotional activities, and other initiatives that advance the programs.
    • Build positive relationships throughout the College and community and promote a favorable reputation for Flagler College Athletics.
    • Maintain regular office hours throughout the calendar year and attend College and Athletics events as available.
    • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, sound judgment, a strong work ethic, and a positive, team-oriented approach.
    • Comply with all College, Athletics, conference, and NCAA policies and requirements.
    • Assist the Head Coach/Director in addressing concerns or unsatisfactory circumstances affecting the programs.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach/Director, Director of Athletics, or other College administrator.
