Job Title: Assistant Coach (Seasonal) -Track & Field (Sprints)

Department: Athletics

Reports to: Director of Track & Field

Status: Seasonal, Non-Benefit Eligible

Location: Lisle Campus

Rate: Stipend up to $3,000 based on the start date of assigned period

Position Summary:

The primary focus of the Assistant Coach (Seasonal) will be the sprint events. Also, administrative support (recruiting). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, training athletes on the track & field team, and assisting the Director of Track & Field in all aspects of pre-season & post-season training, practice, competition, and recruitment. Must be capable of having a flexible practice schedule, monitoring student-athlete academic success, and recruiting strategy for event groups. Also assist the Director of Track & Field in organizing team events, travel logistics, hosting outdoor invitationals, and team fundraising. Adherence to NCAA Division III rules and regulations, supporting the philosophy, goals, and mission of the college and its intercollegiate athletics program, as well as adherence to departmental, university, NACC Conference, and NCAA Division 3 policies and procedures is required.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in the planning, organizing, and administration of event group practice with various practice times available to athletes.

2.Teach proper fundamentals and techniques of the sprint events through safe training and long-term development of athletes.

  1. Assist with recruiting qualified prospective student-athletes who meet the academic and athletic standards of our program.

  2. Assist in organizing logistics for Benedictine University team travel and fundraising goals.

  3. Assist in meet competition preparation and implementation of meet strategies.

Other Functions:

Develop relationships within and positively promote Benedictine University and its surrounding community.

Attend Department and university-related meetings and events as directed.

Represent the Department of Athletics with sportsmanship, integrity, and a high degree of professionalism.

Create a positive experience and program assessment for the student-athletes.

Maintain positive relationships with alumni, parents, students, officials, volunteers, and fans.

Required Qualifications:

Education: High School Graduate/GED Required, Bachelor''s Degree Preferred

Experience: Previous Coaching Experience Required

Specific Skills: Knowledge of NCAA Division III philosophy, recruitment, rules and regulations

Specific Knowledge, Licenses, Certifications: Yes. Knowledge of NCAA sprint events and relays. Valid Driver's License required. CPR/AED certification is preferred. USATF Level One Certification is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to handle varying levels of stress while maintaining professional demeanor. Possible lifting, bending, walking, kneeling, stretching, and stooping. Frequent districtwide and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours; outdoor exposure to sun/heat or cold weather.

Ability to communicate clearly. Ability to see details of objects that are less than a few feet away or are more than a few feet away. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. General Customer service and office environment.

Working Conditions: Indoor and outdoor environment. Nights and weekends are required.

Training: As a University employee you are required to complete all University-specific and/or OSHA related training to fulfill your job duties. Specific training will be conducted online or in person. Employees must complete all trainings required by Benedictine University.
