The Assistant Coach, Softball will aid the head coach in providing leadership and organization for all phases of the operation of the program at Roosevelt in compliance with all NCAA and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) rules and regulations. Responsibilities of the Assistant Coach include, but are not limited to, practice planning and assessment, supervision of practices and competitions, individual student-athlete instruction and evaluation, academic mentorship, recruitment of prospective student-athletes, and assistance with team travel.

This is a full-time, exempt position that reports to the Head Softball Coach.

The salary range for this position is $43,500-$45,000

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Prior experience in assigned program as a coach, participant or related role
  • Excellent organizational, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships
  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to service excellence by embodying Roosevelt's core values, mission, and vision in every aspect of the role working with students, faculty, staff, and visitors
  • A positive and professional demeanor is a must
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook

Years of Experience Required 0-3 Required Education Bachelor's Degree Certification/Licensure Required Minimum Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior recruiting experience at the college level
  • Prior coaching experience at the college level

Equipment Operated

Basic office equipment (desktop computer, copier/ multi-function device, fax and telephone).

Working Conditions

The Assistant Coach will work in multiple environments, including areas for team practice and competition and recruiting, in addition to an office setting. The Assistant Coach's schedule will include nights and weekends and travel with team for competitions, as well as for prospective student recruitment as deemed necessary and assigned by the head coach.

Essential Job Functions

Duty and Responsibility

Competition and Practice Management:

  • Aid the head coach in facilitating team practices and competitions providing real-time feedback to student-athletes to instruct and motivate to improve their skill-set.
  • Ensure student-athlete safety and welfare during practices and competitions.
  • Occasionally assist with scheduling, event management and team travel to competitions.

Percentage Of Time 45 Duty and Responsibility

Practice Planning and Assessment:

  • Provide post-practice assessment to gauge individual student-athlete and team progress towards established goals.
  • Assist Head Coach with development of strategies for installment during practices and execution during scheduled competitions.

Percentage Of Time 25 Duty and Responsibility

Student-Athlete Recruitment:

  • Aid the Head Coach, as needed, in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes, including on-campus visits, occasional off-campus events and on-going dialogue that drives enrollment.

Percentage Of Time 15 Duty and Responsibility

Student-Athlete Engagement and Academic Success:

  • Assist the head coach in guiding the academic progress of student-athletes within the program.
  • Assist students with issues that can be barriers to retention and eventual graduation.
