Job Summary

In correlation with the Head Coach and under the supervision of the Director of Athletics, the Assistant Softball Coach supports the Head Coach in the organization, development, and supervision of the Softball Program. This role works independently and with minimal supervision from the head coach to instruct student athletes in various aspects of the athletic discipline and sports performance, and assists with coaching, recruiting, administrative duties, and the holistic development of student-athletes. The assistant coach must model Christian character, uphold institutional policies, and contribute to a culture of academic success, competitive excellence, and spiritual growth.

  • Assist the university in implementing the Statement of Purpose
  • Assist the university in implementing the long-range institutional and financial plans
  • Independently provide on-the-field instruction in team concepts, safety and athletic performance
  • Independently develop and instruct the off-season and in-season strength and conditioning programs for student athletes
  • Instruct skill development opportunities for individual players and positions
  • Instruct student athletes to maintain equipment and playing courts of the facility
  • Support game-day responsibilities including scouting, warm-ups, bench management, and in-game adjustments.
  • Promote athlete safety, proper technique, and evidence-based training methods.
  • Develop and instruct athletes on independently made training practice plans
  • Maintain accurate recruiting logs and communication records for compliance purposes.
  • Coordinate campus visits and assist with onboarding of incoming student-athletes.
  • Contribute to retention efforts by supporting academic monitoring and student-athlete well-being.
  • Help maintain accurate documentation for compliance, eligibility, and training logs.
  • Communicate effectively with athletics administration, faculty, and campus partners.
  • Model appropriate conduct and reinforce standards for sportsmanship, academic responsibility, and team discipline.
  • Report and document concerns related to behavior, health/safety, or compliance to the Head Coach and appropriate administrators.
  • Encourage holistic development-academic, personal, spiritual, and athletic.
  • Adhere to university, conference, and NAIA rules and ensure student-athletes and staff do the same.
  • Participate in mandated trainings (Title IX, FERPA, safety protocols, etc.).
  • Assist the other softball coaches with recruiting
  • Assist the other softball coaches with field maintenance

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Advanced knowledge of the game of Softball
  • Ability to use common office productivity software
  • U.S. drivers license with clean driving history

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree
  • Prior experience as a high school or college softball coach

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to withstand the physical demands of on the field softball coaching
  • Must have ability to demonstrate skill development drills
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. of equipment
  • Must be able to work on occasion, involving exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, grass, dirt and dust.
  • Should be in good overall physical shape
  • Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to do evening/weekend work, travel, and work irregular hours aligned with the athletics calendar
  • Must be able to drive both passenger cars and vans both locally and out of state as needed within the athletic calendar and schedule
