Job Summary
Provide instruction, training, and motivation to prepare student-athletes for practices and competitive events. Demonstrate/instruct student-athletes on Softball performance principles, game strategies, and safety rules. Provide Softball program management support to the head coach. Evaluate student-athletes' strengths and weaknesses as a possible recruit and/or to improve the technique of current student athletes, to prepare them for competition. Serve as a mentor to student-athletes with academics, athletics, and issues related to the college/student-athlete experience.
What Youll Be Doing:
COACHING/INSTRUCTING: Provide instruction, training, and motivation to prepare student-athletes for practice and competitive events. Instruct student-athletes in Softball performance principles, game strategies, and safety rules. Observe student-athletes in practice and training, analyze performance data/statistics and instruct student-athletes on technique. Collect and analyze tactical/statistical data and game film of opposing teams with student-athletes and recommend game-day strategies for student-athletes. Plan, schedule, organize, and conduct practice/training/life skills sessions.
RECRUITING: Recruit perspective student-athletes via telephone calls, text messages, social media, letters, emails, competition, and school or home visits. Make recommendations to the head Softball coach regarding whether to extend unofficial/official campus visits and/or athletic grant-in-aid. Detail perspective student-athlete assessments through written recruiting reports/notes and provide recommendations on recruitment strategy. Recommend locations and perspective student-athletes to be targeted for future recruitment efforts.
SPORTS PERFORMANCE AND WELLNESS: Partner with strength and conditioning, sports psychology, sports nutrition, and sports medicine staffs on the overall physical and mental preparation and health status of student-athletes. Work in tandem with the Sports Performance and Wellness staffs in developing and implementing best practices and performance/wellness programs including scheduling, providing motivational support and reinforcement to enable student-athletes to achieve maximum performance. Review and maintain progress records/stats and collaborate to evaluate efficiencies and implement changes to achieve desired goals, as necessary.
ACADEMICS/STUDENT-ATHLETE SUPPORT: Mentor student-athletes on academic and personal issues. Discuss class registration deadlines and follow-up to ensure required paperwork is completed. Follow-up and work in tandem with the Athletics Student Services relative to reports of missed classes or study table hours. On road trips, conduct study sessions, if needed. Partner with Athletics Student Services to identify and monitor academically "at risk" student-athletes. Recommend accountability incentives to resolve athletic, academic, and/or behavior problems as they arise.
OTHER: Represent Head Softball Coach and /or Intercollegiate Athletics at department and institutional events (e.g., fundraiser, alumni events).
