Position Information

Title Assistant Coach - Wrestling (part-time, non-benefited, exempt) Department Summary

It is the mission of the Department of Athletics and Recreation at Bridgewater State University to provide varsity, intramural, club and recreational activities to address the needs, interests and capabilities of our students, faculty and staff. All activities are conducted with fair sportsmanlike principles for men and women as mandated by our various sports governing bodies. With service to our campus as a priority, our activities are intended to enhance and be a vital part of the total collegiate experience for all participants.

Position Summary

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: In collaboration with the head coach and athletic administrative staff, the assistant coach plans practices to teach, encourage and develop student-athlete skills and meet techniques. Assists the head coach in the organization and administration of all aspects of the intercollegiate men's wrestling program.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Head Coach - Men's Wrestling

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervision of student personnel

Position Type Temporary Essential Duties

CORE DUTIES:

Assist the head coach in teaching skills and strategies for wrestling in the traditional and non-traditional seasons

Coach wrestling team members individually and in groups, and demonstrate appropriate game techniques

planning and directing team practices to encourage and develop student-athlete skills and game techniques

develop and recommend strategy, teach theoretical skills and position assignments

Coordinate year-round instruction with players in accordance with University, Conference and NCAA bylaws and regulations

Monitor and oversee the academic development of wrestling student-athletes, ensuring academic progress to graduation

With appropriate certification from a national recognized governing body, develop in wrestling student-athletes an understanding of proper sports nutrition, personal health and safe strength development

Create a positive and healthy team culture that encourages learning and development

Additional support duties as assigned by Head Coach including assisting in

developing and implementing community service learning programs

organizing and directing a comprehensive student-athlete support program including promotion of the program, leadership development and student-athlete motivation through programs such as Peer Mentors, Captain's Council and SAAC

developing and implementing a comprehensive recruiting plan

fundraising and alumni relations

Adhere to and support all rules, conditions and regulations as set forth by Bridgewater State University, Conference affiliations and the National Collegiate Athletic Association pertaining to all aspects of the team's management.

Performs other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or three-four years of recent collegiate coaching and/or playing experience required

Successful completion of the NCAA Division III Rules Test for Coaches by the 2nd full week of the playing and practice season

Strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences (i.e., students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, administration and community)

Current certification in First Aid / CPR (AED)

Ability to work evening, weekends, and holidays as playing and practice season schedule dictates.

Ability to lift 25 lbs. with appropriate accommodation

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with recruiting database management preferred

Valid U.S. driver's license preferred
