The Assistant Controller will play a key role in the accuracy, timeliness, and quality of Scout's financial reporting. Reporting to and partnering closely with the Controller, this position will provide hands-on leadership over the monthly and quarterly close, general ledger activities, financial statement review, and reporting to Scout's private equity ownership.
This newly created role requires an experienced accounting leader who can manage multiple priorities, coordinate complex audits with a Big 4 firm, develop strong working relationships across the organization, and continuously improve accounting processes, controls, and documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual general ledger close process, including the close calendar, account ownership, review procedures, issue resolution, and timely completion of deliverables.
Review journal entries, account reconciliations, consolidations, accruals, and other close activities to ensure completeness, accuracy, appropriate support, and compliance with U.S. GAAP.
Manage the external audit process in partnership with the Controller, including planning, coordination of requests, preparation of supporting schedules, tracking of open items, and timely resolution of audit matters.
Serve as a day-to-day accounting contact for the company's Big 4 auditor and coordinate multiple entity, project, statutory, or other audits as applicable.
In partnership with the Controller, Director of Accounting, and Sr. Manager of Financial reporting, review consolidated and entity-level financial statements and related disclosures for accuracy, consistency, and compliance with applicable accounting requirements.
Partner with technical accounting, tax, treasury, FP&A, legal, development, operations, and other teams to ensure transactions are recorded accurately and reporting requirements are met.
Maintain and enhance accounting policies, procedures, close checklists, reconciliations, and audit-ready documentation.
Evaluate existing accounting processes and implement scalable improvements that shorten the close, strengthen controls, reduce manual effort, and improve reporting quality.
Support internal control activities and remediation efforts, including review of key controls and coordination of evidence needed for internal and external audit procedures.
Assist the Controller with special projects, transactions, and other accounting or reporting matters as the business grows.
