Description

Position Summary

We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Assistant Controller to support the accounting function and help oversee day-to-day financial operations. This position plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting accounting process improvements, supervising accounting staff, and assisting with accounting system implementations and conversions.

The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, technically strong in accounting and financial reporting, and comfortable balancing strategic oversight with hands-on execution in a fast-paced, growing organization.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting Operations

  • Support and oversee daily accounting operations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, reconciliations, and month-end close activities.
  • Assist in maintaining strong internal controls and accounting procedures.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting team members.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiencies.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Assist with accounting software implementations, upgrades, and system conversions.
  • Participate in testing, data validation, troubleshooting, and user training.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external consultants on system-related initiatives.
  • Develop and enhance workflows, reporting structures, and accounting procedures.
  • Evaluate and recommend process improvements and technology solutions.

Accounts Payable

  • Review invoices and payment requests for accuracy and compliance.
  • Monitor vendor accounts and resolve discrepancies.
  • Support invoice workflow management and process improvements.
  • Ensure timely and accurate payment processing.

Accounts Receivable

  • Review customer billings and account reconciliations.
  • Monitor collections and customer account balances.
  • Support internal teams with billing-related inquiries and issue resolution.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate receivables records.

Payroll & Compliance

  • Maintain employee information within payroll systems.
  • Assist with payroll processing and payroll-related reconciliations.
  • Support preparation of payroll tax filings and regulatory reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable payroll and tax regulations.

Financial Analysis & Reporting

  • Assist with budget monitoring, variance analysis, and financial reporting.
  • Support project accounting, cost tracking, and job costing activities where applicable.
  • Analyze financial data and provide recommendations to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Assist with audits and other compliance-related requirements.

Qualifications

Required

  • 5+ years of accounting experience.
  • Experience with financial reporting, reconciliations, and general accounting functions.
  • Previous experience supervising or mentoring accounting staff.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience working with accounting software and financial systems.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience with ERP systems and accounting software implementations.
  • Knowledge of job costing, project accounting, or industry-specific accounting practices.
  • Experience in construction, manufacturing, professional services, or project-based environments.
