Overview:

Brighton Ski Resort is seeking a detail-oriented and dynamic Assistant Controller who loves the mountains and outdoor recreation as much as they love accounting and financial operations. This role plays a key part in supporting the resort's financial health while helping to create a positive and professional workplace for all team members. Reporting to the Controller, the Assistant Controller will support the resort’s financial strategy and partner with department leaders to ensure strong financial controls, operational efficiency, and accurate reporting while driving results.

Responsible for assisting with the daily operations of the accounting team, including financial reporting, account reconciliations, budgeting support, payroll coordination, internal controls, cash management, audits, and process improvement. The Assistant Controller will help maintain accurate financial records, ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards, and support operational leaders with financial insight and analysis.

This is an in-person position based at Brighton Resort and requires working onsite in the office five days per week. The role works closely with resort leadership and department teams, making daily in-person collaboration an essential part of the position.

Responsibilities:

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join Brighton Resort's Accounting team. This role is responsible for performing specialized accounting tasks, managing and overseeing general accounting, and managing and overseeing operational budgeting and reporting functions. The Assistant Controller will report directly to the Controller and play a key role in ensuring financial accuracy, driving operational efficiency, and supporting resort and departmental teams. The position requires strong technical accounting expertise, leadership skills, and an understanding of resort operations.

  • Prepares reports that summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, earnings, and cash flow based on past, present, and forecasted operations.
  • Provides management with timely reviews of the organization's financial status and progress in its various programs and activities.
  • Directs daily, monthly, quarterly, and yearly reporting compliance with corporate standards; develops and monitors controls and procedures to ensure such compliance.
  • Reviews cash disbursements to ensure compliance with established procedures and releases disbursements or investigates and resolves discrepancies.
  • Coordinates audits of company accounts.
  • Develops and monitors Operating Budgets, including: establishing seasonal budget targets; maintaining, issuing, and reconciling budgeting templates; and working with team members to create and meet targets.
  • Manage and lead direct reports, including seasonal team members.
  • During peak business periods, works 4–8 hours weekly outside of home department.
  • Contributes to the team effort by participating in job sharing; assuming responsibility for resort cleanliness and safety of guests and team members; participating in safety meetings; accepting diverse assignments; and maintaining a positive and friendly attitude in all internal and external interactions.
  • Participates in company training programs such as Servant Leadership, Integrity Service, and IMPACT.
  • Meets service level objectives and department goals as set forth by the Controller.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Controller.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; MBA or CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance roles.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, financial reporting requirements, and internal controls.
  • Experience managing or supporting operational budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Experience with cash management and disbursement oversight.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop accounting staff.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with ERP or accounting systems.
  • Excellent analytical skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Hospitality or resort industry experience is a plus.
  • Eligible for GAB (Growth and Bonus) program.

Reports To: Vice President, Controller

Supervises: Direct reports within the Accounting Department.
