AmSpec is seeking a hands-on Assistant Controller to strengthen the quality and consistency of accounting across a global, multi-entity business. This person will lead core close and control activities, work directly with regional finance teams, and help turn process improvements into repeatable monthly routines. The role is a senior accounting leadership position with ownership of deliverables, review, and follow-through.
· Lead the monthly and quarterly close for assigned entities and consolidated reporting workstreams. Set clear deadlines, review journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations, resolve aged items, and ensure timely, supported submissions from local and regional teams.
· Establish a consistent close control framework across entities, including account ownership, reconciliation standards, review evidence, issue escalation, and a clear status view for the Group Controller.
· Review complex accounting matters under US GAAP, including acquisitions and intercompany balances, fixed assets, leases, accruals, reserves, and other significant estimates. Prepare or review technical conclusions and ensure they are reflected correctly in the books.
· Coordinate financial statement and external audit support, including schedules, account analyses, supporting documentation, audit requests, and timely resolution of issues with the auditors.
· Partner with the treasury and systems team on interfaces, access, data quality, and reconciliations between source systems, the general ledger, and consolidation reporting. Help validate changes to FCCS alongside existing reporting and support NetSuite rollouts with testing and control design.
· Improve the fixed asset and lease accounting processes, including complete subledgers, supported asset and lease changes, and reconciliations to the general ledger.
· Work with the finance operations team and regional controllers to clarify ownership, train reviewers, document procedures, and build a scalable process for recurring accounting work.
· Supervise and develop accounting staff. Assign work based on priorities, review for quality, give direct feedback, and step in to resolve difficult issues when needed.
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA or equivalent professional accounting qualification strongly preferred.
· At least eight years of progressive accounting experience, including meaningful responsibility for month-end close, balance sheet controls, and external audit; experience leading or reviewing the work of others.
· Strong US GAAP knowledge and the judgment to identify an accounting issue, research it, explain the conclusion, and see the correction through to completion.
· Experience in a multi-entity or international business, with the ability to work constructively across time zones, systems, and teams with different levels of accounting maturity.
· Experience with ERP and consolidation systems; NetSuite and Oracle FCCS or Hyperion experience is especially useful. Comfort working with Excel-based analyses and improving manual processes is essential.
· A practical, detail-oriented working style: able to set standards and deadlines while personally reviewing the underlying accounting and supporting documentation.
The initial focus will be to make close status and account ownership visible across the group; raise the quality and timeliness of reconciliations and audit support; establish clear review routines with regional teams; and support the controlled transition of consolidation and ERP processes.
