Job Details

As an Assistant Controller, you will help build and scale a disciplined finance and accounting function from the ground up. This role requires someone who is hands-on, comfortable navigating ambiguity, and capable of developing processes that grow with the business. You will partner closely with the Controller and play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, strengthening internal controls, and overseeing core operational accounting functions including AP, AR, payroll, benefits, financial close, and technical accounting.

Manufacturing experience is required, as this position will work closely with operations in a cost-driven, capital-intensive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
  • Maintain the general ledger in accordance with U.S. GAAP
  • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules
  • Assist in developing and documenting accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Support external audits, tax filings, and compliance requirements
  • Perform ad hoc financial analysis and management reporting
  • Oversee accounts payable, including invoice review, coding, approvals, and vendor payments
  • Manage accounts receivable, including invoicing, cash application, collections, and reconciliations
  • Oversee payroll processing in partnership with third-party providers
  • Partner with People Operations on administration of employee benefits programs (health, dental, vision, retirement, etc.)

Responsibilities may evolve based on business needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting
  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience; public accounting preferred
  • Prior manufacturing experience required
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and operational accounting
  • Hands-on experience with payroll and benefits administration
  • Experience with accounting systems
  • Advanced Excel skills with ability to work through large data sets and reconciliations
  • High attention to detail with ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or CPA-eligible
  • Experience in a high-growth, startup, or manufacturing environment
  • Exposure to equity compensation, multi-state payroll, or benefits scaling
  • Experience helping build or improve accounting processes and controls
  • Detail oriented and proactive
