Assistant Controller


Position Overview


The Assistant Controller plays a key role in overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, and financial planning activities. This position supports the Controller by ensuring accurate financial records, maintaining compliance with accounting standards, and delivering meaningful financial insights to leadership.


This role is responsible for helping manage the month-end close process, overseeing general ledger activities, supporting budgeting and forecasting, and improving internal financial processes. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, leadership ability, and a continuous improvement mindset.



Key Responsibilities


Financial Reporting & Month-End Close



  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities to ensure timely and accurate reporting

  • Review journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations

  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, including income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow reporting

  • Investigate variances between actual results, budget, and forecast


General Accounting



  • Maintain accuracy and integrity of the general ledger

  • Oversee balance sheet reconciliations and support resolution of reconciling items

  • Monitor fixed asset activity, depreciation, and capital expenditure tracking

  • Ensure accounting records comply with U.S. GAAP


Consolidations & Intercompany Accounting



  • Support consolidation of multiple entities and related financial reporting

  • Manage intercompany transactions, eliminations, and settlement activity

  • Ensure proper reconciliation of intercompany balances


Budgeting, Forecasting & FP&A



  • Assist in annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes

  • Support financial modeling, dashboards, and management reporting

  • Provide analysis to help leadership understand performance trends and business drivers


Internal Controls & Compliance



  • Help maintain strong internal controls across accounting functions

  • Support development and documentation of accounting policies and procedures

  • Ensure compliance with audit requirements and financial regulations


Audit & Technical Accounting



  • Serve as a key contact during external audit activities

  • Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation

  • Research complex accounting matters and provide recommendations


Process Improvement & Systems



  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows and reporting efficiency

  • Support ERP optimization, implementations, or upgrades

  • Partner cross-functionally to improve data quality and financial visibility


Leadership



  • Provide guidance and mentorship to accounting team members

  • Review staff work for accuracy and completeness

  • Help drive accountability, collaboration, and professional growth within the team



Qualifications



  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience

  • Experience with financial statement preparation and close processes

  • Consolidation experience preferred

  • CPA or CPA-track preferred

  • Experience with ERP systems strongly preferred



Required Skills



  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting

  • Advanced Excel and financial analysis skills

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
