Position Overview
The Assistant Controller - Shared Services works under the general direction of the Controller of H2O America. The primary function of this role is to plan, supervise, and coordinate activities related to shared services accounting. The Assistant Controller works closely with its counterpart, the Assistant Controller of Utility & Regulatory Accounting, to ensure that all financial compliance and legal obligations of the Accounting & Finance department are met.
This position manages employees across multiple reporting locations and subsidiaries, requiring occasional travel. It carries a high level of responsibility and complexity, requiring independent judgment and discretion. The role involves advanced accounting work with comprehensive GAAP knowledge and strict adherence to internal SOX controls.
Key Responsibilities
• Oversee monthly and quarterly financial close activities, ensuring timely and accurate reporting. • Manage all financial accounting functions. • Reconcile, review, and analyze complex financial records and reports. • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations. • Review and approve journal entries. • Lead preparation of: • Monthly flux analysis. • Monthly board report. • Annual report. • Ensure integrity of: • Chart of accounts. • Financial reports. • System interfaces. • Coach and mentor Accounting team. • Plan, assign, supervise, review, and evaluate staff work. • Provide recognition and development where appropriate. • Collaborate cross-functionally to execute strategic initiatives. • Assist with quarterly interim and annual audits. • Analyze business processes and participate in continuous improvement for efficiency. • Co-manage system implementations, testing, and upgrades. • Ensure compliance with company policies and support mission values, ethics, and integrity. • Assist with external reporting (10Q, 10K) regulatory filings.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in accounting or related field. 10 years of professional accounting experience across multiple functions and staff supervision. CPA required with minimum 2 years of public accounting experience. Utility industry experience preferred.
