El Carmen Catholic Church is seeking a faith-filled, organized, and bilingual Assistant Coordinator of Religious Education to support the parish's catechetical programs. This part-time position works closely with the Pastor and the Coordinator of Religious Education to ensure that children, youth, families, and catechists are served with excellence, hospitality, and pastoral care.
Schedule & Hours
Approximately 6 hours per week.
Weekly presence during Monday Religious Education sessions (as required).
Occasional weekend meetings, retreats, and parish events.

Position Summary
The Assistant Coordinator of Religious Education assists in planning, organizing, and implementing the parish's Religious Education, OCIA, and OCIC programs. This role supports weekly operations, provides leadership to catechists, helps coordinate sacramental preparation, and fosters a safe and welcoming environment for all families.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain regular communication with the Pastor and Coordinator of Religious Education.
Assist with class schedules, room assignments, attendance records, sacramental preparation lists, Mass attendance, service hours, and parent communication logs.
Prepare classrooms with materials, prayer spaces, and supplies.
Help create semester and yearly program calendars.
Support catechists with guidance, materials, and orientation to parish procedures.
Attend bi-monthly pastoral council meetings and monthly parish staff meetings.
Assist with liturgical celebrations for OCIA/OCIC and planning for the Easter Vigil.
Support First Communion and Confirmation rehearsals, confessions, retreats, and celebrations.
Coordinate parent meetings and track student progress and required documents.
Assist in developing individualized programs for students with special needs.
Supervise hallways, entrances, and dismissal procedures to ensure child safety.
Support implementation of Safe Environment policies.
Collaborate with parish staff and ministry leaders; step in for the Coordinator when needed.
Represent the Religious Education program with professionalism and pastoral care.
Requirements
Qualifications
Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.
Desire to grow in knowledge and practice of the Catholic faith.
Minimum 3 years of experience in catechesis, parish ministry, or teaching preferred.
Bilingual (English and Spanish) required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint) or similar programs.
High school diploma required; bachelor's degree or coursework in Theology, Catechesis, or related field preferred.
Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and work collaboratively with families, catechists, and parish staff.
Completion of Safe Environment training (or willingness to complete).
