Assistant Daycare Teacher
Location: Ark Academy, Sioux Falls, SD Reports to: Lead Teacher / Center Director Position Type: Part-time
Position Summary
At Ark Academy, our Assistant Teachers play a vital role in supporting a nurturing, faith-based classroom environment where every child feels safe, loved, and encouraged to grow. Working under the guidance of a Lead Teacher, this position involves helping with daily routines, implementing lesson plans, and creating joyful learning experiences for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years.
Key Responsibilities
Assist the Lead Teacher with the implementation of daily curriculum and classroom activities.
Help maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment.
Provide attentive supervision and nurturing care to children at all times.
Engage in age-appropriate play, learning, and faith-based activities.
Foster positive communication with children, parents, and coworkers.
Support behavior guidance in a positive and respectful manner.
Assist with diapering, toileting, meals, and transitions as needed.
Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and school events.
Uphold all center policies and state childcare licensing regulations.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; early childhood education coursework or experience preferred.
Must meet South Dakota licensing standards for Assistant Teacher roles.
Previous experience in a childcare or early learning setting is a plus.
Ability to work collaboratively and take direction.
Patience, warmth, and a love for working with children.
CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain within 90 days).
Must pass background check and meet state childcare center requirements.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and participate in active play.
Capable of sitting, standing, bending, and moving throughout the day.
