Position Summary
The Assistant Deli Manager supports the Deli Manager in overseeing daily department operations, driving sales, delivering exceptional customer service, and maintaining high standards for food quality, safety, and presentation. This role assists with associate development, inventory management, merchandising, and operational execution while ensuring compliance with company policies and food safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities Department Operations
- Assist in managing day-to-day deli department operations.
- Ensure products are properly prepared, stocked, rotated, and presented.
- Maintain department cleanliness and organization in accordance with company standards.
- Support execution of merchandising plans, promotions, and seasonal programs.
- Monitor department conditions to ensure readiness throughout business hours.
Customer Service
- Deliver exceptional service and create a customer-focused environment.
- Address customer questions, concerns, and special requests professionally.
- Promote product knowledge and suggestive selling techniques to enhance customer satisfaction.
- Ensure associates maintain high service standards.
Leadership & Associate Development
- Provide leadership, coaching, and support to deli associates.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, and scheduling activities.
- Monitor productivity and provide feedback to improve performance.
- Promote teamwork and a positive work environment.
Inventory & Financial Performance
- Assist with inventory management, ordering, and product replenishment.
- Monitor shrink, waste, and out-of-stock conditions.
- Support labor management and department expense control initiatives.
- Help achieve departmental sales, margin, and profitability goals.
Food Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
- Maintain proper temperature controls, labeling, and product rotation procedures.
- Follow company safety programs and operational policies.
- Assist with audits, inspections, and corrective action plans as needed.
Merchandising & Product Quality
- Maintain attractive department displays and merchandising standards.
- Monitor product freshness and quality.
- Ensure promotional items and featured products are properly displayed.
- Support product innovation and seasonal merchandising initiatives.
