The Campus Dining and Hospitality team encourages applications for the Assistant Dining Manager role! The purpose of this role is to provide administrative leadership for personnel, management of fiscal resources, food production, hiring, training, purchasing, inventory, quality standards, and health/safety compliance for assigned area of oversight in Campus Dining & Hospitality (CDH). This position provides flexible and responsive customer service. This position is responsible for effective communication and role modeling as it relates to staff hiring, training, accountability, and performance assessment. Provides leadership daily for assigned shifts and events. Ensures that cash handling policies and procedures are implemented and followed. Helps administer and implement policies and procedures as advised by Campus Dining & Hospitality and the university.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Personnel, Training and Development:

  • Provides support for hiring, training, and development of CDH staff in areas of oversight, including student and part time staff.
  • Develop and deliver quality training programs for staff through formal sessions and on-the-job formats.
  • Design, prepare and disseminate written procedures and updates to staff.
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and thorough performance reviews for all assigned staff.
  • Handle leave and personnel schedules to meet operational needs.
  • Responsible for daily revenue collections and cash, credit, declining balance and meal plan reconciliation.
  • Direct accident prevention in operation, handle incident case reporting for assigned team.
  • Supervise facility cleanliness and train personnel on the safe use of chemicals, equipment, open and closing protocols.
  • Trains and holds staff accountable for following all food safety, sanitation and menu labeling.
  • Supports campus, divisional and department staffing development initiatives.

Operational Management & Oversight:

  • Oversees all aspects of operation in area of oversite including but not limited to; guest interaction, point of sale, inventory and quality control, set up and break down of service and production areas, furniture, fixtures and equipment, food preparation areas, food safety, allergen and menu labeling, digital signage, operational hours, vendor and campus relations, special events.
  • Serves as marketing liaison with Student Life Marketing and Communication.
  • Participates in sourcing assessment and implementation of new consumer packaged goods, menu items and concepts that align with CDH priorities.
  • Participates in the design, product research, costing, and implementation of new food service concepts within CDH including residential, retail and catering spaces.
  • Ensures all waste reduction, compost, sustainability, packaging and reusable container initiatives are followed within the span of control.
  • Review monthly financial reports and ensure fiscal stewardship. Implement operational strategies to meet budget parameters.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of Student Life and the department's strategic plan, long and short-range goals, and action plans.
  • Ensure timely completion and submission of all invoices, reports, and timekeeping records. Generate, analyze and/or handle all other reports as assigned.
  • Ensure all food safety and allergen SOP's.
  • Actively runs operation by presence on floor, production and service areas to ensure high level of customer service and product quality and safety.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
  • Must obtain food safety certification appropriate for the position level within 6 months of hire and maintain certification for the duration of employment with CDH.

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in hotel or restaurant management. An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
  • 2 years supervisory experience.
  • Proven experience using point of sale software and inventory management software.
  • Food safety certified.
