Overview

In consultation with and reporting to the Dean of Admissions, the Assistant Director is a member of the Admissions Office who will manage the Launchpad Scholars Program (LSP) and assist with general admissions tasks as needed for Yale Law School. The LSP aims to promote access to the legal profession by equipping participants with the tools and resources they need to apply to the law schools of their choosing and succeed as law students and legal professionals. This innovative program is designed to support Scholars in every aspect of their law school application process.

This position is a minimum part time 30 hours per week with up to full time potential at 37.5 hours per week.

The Assistant Director has responsibility for the following:

Recruitment & Application Process

  • Manages the process of recruiting candidates for LSP, including through (i) developing an overall recruiting strategy, (ii) managing drip marketing and other email campaigns, (iii) organizing and conducting information sessions for prospective LSP applicants and prelaw advisors, and (iv) creating all marketing and presentation materials

  • Manages LSP application processes, including (i) maintenance of online application form and all related communications, (ii) application review, (iii) interviews of applicants, and (iv) selection of program participants

  • Responds to inquiries from prospective applicants, prelaw advisors, and other key stakeholders, including responsibility for Launchpad email inbox

Program Management

  • Sets the LSP timeline and schedule of programming (including the timeline for recruiting and the application process)

  • Manages onboarding of participants

  • Works with program faculty and speakers to develop curriculum for all program components (including Welcome Summit, Saturday Academies, LSAT program, and Residential Institute); manages logistics for all program components

  • Attends and assists with LSP "Saturday Academies"

  • Creates and manages assessment metrics and protocols to gather feedback from participants

General Administrative Oversight

  • Manages, tracks, and updates the LSP budget

  • Manages the LSP website and other online / marketing materials in coordination with the Law School's Office of Public Affairs

  • Manages all aspects of the relationship with program vendors and contractors

  • Serves as primary liaison to Sponsor and manages sponsorship relationship

General J.D. Admissions Responsibilities

  • On an as needed basis: assists Admissions Office with recruiting for the J.D. program; participates in the review and selection process for J.D. applicants; participates in yielding activities for admitted J.D. applicants

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Abilities

  1. Strong project management skills and the ability to work independently.

  2. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  3. Highly developed organizational skills with the ability to take initiative; ability to prioritize and multi-task to meet demands in a high-volume environment and in a timely and efficient manner.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

  1. Experience working with under-resourced populations; J.D. preferred.

  2. Experience working in CRMs (i.e. Slate) Qualtrics, and advanced MS Excel and MS PowerPoint skills.

Principal Responsibilities

  1. Evaluates all admissions applications, interviews prospective applicants, and independently assesses each application against a variety of factors, including the applicant's strength, weaknesses and potential contribution to the Yale community. Determines applicant's standing within local, national and international applicant pools. 2. Presents applicant recommendations to admissions committee. Briefs admissions committee about applicants and about schools and geographical regions as they relate to evaluation of applicant files. Determines which applicants will be waitlisted 3. Develops public presentations designed to promote Yale to prospective applicants. 4. Advises secondary school counselors, applicants and parents on the application process. 5. Coordinates alumni recruiting activities in assigned geographical areas. 6. Serves as a liaison with organizations and individuals involved in the admissions process. 7. May perform other duties assigned. Required Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree in a related field. Four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
