Job Description Summary

The Assistant Director is responsible for oversight and leadership of departmental student leadership development initiatives.  This role serves as a day-to-day advisor for the Residential Housing Association, develops department wide initiatives for student leadership development, and serves as the lead departmental liaison with other university entities for facilitating student leadership development for residential students.

Position Details: Some travel and work beyond normal business hours and/or weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the day-to-day advisor for the Residential Housing Association
  • Develop and implement department-wide leadership initiatives
  • Advise and support student organization advisors and organizations to ensure compliance with departmental and institutional expectations
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for existing student engagement initiatives across the department
  • Serve as the primary liaison for student organization recognition and technology support with other department and division staff
  • Develop, maintain, and manage an assigned budget for student leadership initiatives
  • Act as the main departmental contact for Student Government Association (SGA) Senators
  • Serve on department, division, and university committees as assigned by the Executive Director, including leading the Advising and Leadership development team/committee within the department
  • Train, evaluate, and develop assigned staff to enhance professional skills and competencies

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Student Affairs, Counseling, Higher Education, or related applicable field.
  • Six years of experience in student development work or related student affairs specialty.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Student Affairs, Counseling, Higher Education, or related field
  • Experience working within a Residence Life Department on a college campus
  • Advanced Leadership training or certification focused on the development of others
  • Experience in direct advising
  • Experience in facilitating learning, training, or workshops in a formal capacity
  • Experience developing and facilitating a formal academic curriculum 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding.
