Assistant Director Engineering Focus Posted On July 21 2026 Hours Full Time Description Assistant Director Engineering FocusDEPARTMENTCenter for Career Development Student AffairsREPORTS TODirector of Career DevelopmentTYPEFull-time Union UCU Annualized Rate 80000 - 82000JOB SUMMARYReporting to the Director of Career Development the Assistant Director engages in career counseling with a primary focus on supporting students in our School of Engineering. The Assistant Director plans and manages all Career Center programming for the School of Engineering creates weekly opportunities announcements for the School of Engineering updates existing materials and creates new materials relevantto career development.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES• Provide career development and job search counseling to students at The Cooper Union with a primary focus on students in The School of Engineering.• Conduct regular outreach to The School of Engineering students• Assist students in developing resumes and other relevant materials.• Support students in developing the competencies required to become informed about career options and opportunities related to their personal and professional objectives.• Helps manage the general career development email account.• Creates weekly opportunities announcements for students in the School of Engineering.• Disseminate employment and internship opportunities to appropriate faculty organizations and students.• Updates preexisting materials and aids in creating new materials.• Act as a key point person and have a significant hand in career fair planning and execution.• Assist other staff members in the planning and coordination of career outreach and programs across The School of Art and The School of Architecture as needed.• Collaborate on the development and enhancement of the Center for Career Development web sites and technologies integrate technology into daily operations help manage programs and presentations.SKILLSREQUIREMENTS• A background and experience in career development and a strong desire to work with students with an Engineering background is critical.• Must have direct experience in working in higher education settings.• Must be able and willing to work flexible hours including occasional evening or weekend during specified events.• Needs a demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively with a diverse population to enhance and further the mission of The Cooper Union.• Ability to work autonomously and as a team oriented individual.• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to prioritize under pressure.• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.• Ability to exercise initiative judgment and problem-solving skills to complete work take responsibility and make decisions based on solid analysis and interpretation.• Ability to relate and work effectively with employees faculty and students in a collegial cooperative and respectful manner.• Proficiency is required in the use of relevant technology.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE• This position requires a masters degree in higher education or a related field or an abundance of relevant professional experience in STEM fields.• At least 3-5 years of experience relevant to the scope of this position.• Experience with career development counseling for Engineering andor STEM fields is required.• Assist with alumni and external professional mentorship programs programs.• Participate at Cooper Union events such as orientation parents day openhouses admitted students day etc. as needed.• Show initiative enthusiasm and dedication to helping the Center for CareerDevelopment and the Office of Student Affairs carry out their goals andobjectives.• Other duties as assigned within the scope of this position consistent with this jobdescription and prevailing collective bargaining agreements.
