About This Role

The Assistant Director, First Generation Student Center provides vision, strategic leadership and coordination for all first-generation student programs and services at the university. The assistant director oversees the day-to-day operations of the First Generation Student Center, innovates to create pathways for first-generation student success, engages in recruitment activities, leverages technology and data-drive practices to advance first-generation student success, and creates and nurtures a first-generation community across the campus.

This is a higher learning commission quality initiative program and the work connects to the Next-Gen K-State strategic plan.

We support first-generation students (those whose parents or guardians did not complete a four-year degree) by connecting them to campus resources, coordinating efforts across the university to serve them, and fostering a first-generation community.

Our vision: To make K-State the top college choice for first-generation students, maintain our status as a national model, and reduce the existing equity gaps in first-generation student educational outcomes. Our goals align with Next-Gen K-State Strategic Plan.

Our mission: By working collaboratively with campus partners, the First-generation Student Center (FGSC) leads student success efforts by welcoming first-generation students to K-State, fostering a sense of belonging and community, promoting academic success and well-being, and connecting students to enriching learning experiences.

Worksite Description

This position is On-site, 5-days per week.

All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho.

What You''ll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a high school diploma (or equivalent).
  • Seven years of relevant experience.
  • Requirements may be met through a combination of work experience and education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Knowledge of developmental advising theories
  • Extensive experience advising students in a college setting
  • Demonstrated experience working first-generation students
  • Demonstrated experience in working with first-generation populations
  • Problem solving abilities
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Desire to continue learning about current issues in higher education.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.
