    JOB SUMMARY:

    The Library Services Assistant Director supports the daily operations of the library by providing research assistance, instructional support, access to library resources, and exceptional customer service to students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This position coordinates circulation, cataloging, technology support, student staffing, and library programming to promote student success and engagement. The Assistant Director also assists with library administration, assessment, and operational leadership in support of the College''s academic mission.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Serve as a primary point of contact for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
    • Provide reference and research assistance using library resources, databases, and the online catalog.
    • Deliver library orientations, database instruction, workshops, and educational programming.
    • Assist with planning, promotion, and coordination of library events, activities, and outreach initiatives.
    • Coordinate and supervise work-study students and interns, including training, scheduling, time approvals, and performance monitoring, in collaboration with the Director of Library Services and Financial Aid.
    • Provide basic technology support for library equipment, computers, printers, scanners, and assist users with academic software applications.
    • Manage cataloging and collection maintenance activities, including processing new materials, updating reserves, shelving, inventory control, and collection development support using the College's library services platform (FOLIO).
    • Perform circulation functions, including checking materials in and out, coordinating interlibrary loans, and maintaining accurate library records.
    • Collect and analyze library usage and operational data and prepare reports as requested.
    • Assist with departmental planning, goal setting, budget oversight, procurement, and property inventory management.
    • Supervise daily library operations and staff in the absence of the Director of Library Services.
    • Represent the library at institutional meetings, committees, and college events as assigned.
    • Participate in professional development activities and remain current on library services, technology, and best practices.
    • Comply with all College policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
    • All other duties as assigned.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

    Experience: 2+ years of related experience, including supervisory or leadership experience.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Master's degree in library science
    • Experience working in a higher education environment.
    • Experience with FOLIO or a comparable integrated library system/library services platform.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Strong knowledge of library operations, resource management, collection development, assessment practices, and current trends in academic libraries and higher education.
    • Knowledge of project management, process improvement, system optimization, and operational planning.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other library technologies, databases, and information systems.
    • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate complex issues and develop effective solutions.
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills, with the ability to build collaborative relationships across diverse campus constituencies.
    • Ability to collect, analyze, interpret, and present data and reports to a variety of audiences.
    • Demonstrated leadership, decision-making, conflict resolution, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to supervise, train, and mentor student employees and staff while fostering a positive and productive work environment.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail in a dynamic environment.
    • Commitment to providing inclusive and responsive service to students, faculty, staff, and community members.
    • Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Availability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends and respond to operational needs or emergencies as required.
