The Assistant Director of Human Resources partners with the Director of Human Resources and HR leadership team in the development and execution of short- and long-term strategic initiatives supporting the College's mission and workforce objectives. This position provides operational leadership and oversight across key Human Resources functions, while serving as a trusted advisor to managers and employees. The Assistant Director plays a critical role in ensuring the effective delivery of HR services and fostering a positive, compliant, and employee-focused work environment.

The salary for this position begins at $71,557.00 and is commensurate with education and experience.

Principal Accountabilities

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Serve as a confidential advisor and subject matter expert to the Human Resources team and College leadership in the areas of employee relations, benefits, compensation, recruitment, workforce planning, and HR operations
  • Collaborate with the recruitment team to ensure the College's hiring and onboarding needs are met while promoting inclusive recruitment practices and ensuring compliance with Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) requirements
  • Partner with the Benefits Administrator and team to ensure the effective administration of employee benefit programs, including but not limited to medical, dental, vision, COBRA, FMLA, disability, wellness, HSA, and FSA programs
  • Provide leadership and support to the compensation and HR data management functions, including compensation analysis, classification reviews, reporting, workforce analytics, workers' compensation administration, and regulatory reporting
  • Support and coach HR Business Partners in addressing employee relations matters, performance concerns, workplace conflicts, corrective actions, and policy interpretation
  • Assist with the administration and continuous improvement of the College-wide performance management process
  • Provide guidance and consultation regarding workplace investigations, disciplinary actions, performance improvement plans, and employee relations matters
  • Assist with job evaluation, compensation benchmarking, classification reviews, and compensation recommendations
  • Lead regular meetings with direct reports and HR team members to support communication, professional development, accountability, and operational effectiveness
  • Support the Director of Human Resources in the development, implementation, and assessment of strategic HR initiatives, programs, and operational improvements
  • Utilize data and workforce metrics to identify trends and make recommendations that enhance organizational effectiveness and employee engagement

SECONDARY DUTIES

  • Support all functional areas of Human Resources while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency through technology, automation, process improvement, and best practices
  • Monitor recruitment outcomes, workforce trends, and turnover data to identify opportunities for improvement and develop actionable recommendations
  • Assist in the development, review, implementation, and revision of Human Resources policies, procedures, and communications
  • Assist the Director of Human Resources with departmental budget planning, expense forecasting, and operational reporting
  • Serve as a resource to supervisors and managers regarding employment-related matters, policy interpretation, and HR best practices
  • Assist with the oversight of Human Resources operations and may serve as the designated departmental contact in the absence of the Director of Human Resources
  • Represent Human Resources on college committees, task forces, and special projects as assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in human resource management, business administration, public administration, or a related field required; master's degree preferred
  • Professional Human Resources certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, or GPHR) preferred
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible Human Resources experience in areas such as employee relations, compensation, benefits administration, talent acquisition, HR operations, workforce analytics, or related HR functions required
  • Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory, leadership, or team lead experience required; supervisory experience within a Human Resources environment preferred

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations, including FMLA, FLSA, ADA, EEO, Title IX, the Clery Act, Workers' Compensation, and related employment compliance requirements
  • Knowledge of Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS), applicant tracking systems, and workforce reporting tools required; experience with Colleague and PeopleAdmin preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and advise supervisors and managers regarding employee relations, performance management, conflict resolution, and workplace investigations
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive and confidential information
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects while maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while demonstrating professionalism, adaptability, and servant leadership
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
