Position Announcement

This position offers a unique opportunity to help shape and support the operational foundation of Utah Valley University's library system. As the Assistant Director for Library Operations and Technology, you will provide leadership and coordination across key functional areas, including collections, technical services, archives, technology support, facilities operations, and emergency preparedness. Working closely with department leaders and library administration, you will play a critical role in implementing strategic priorities, improving operational effectiveness, and ensuring that library services and resources remain responsive to the needs of students, faculty, staff, and the broader campus community.

As a member of the library's administrative team, you will have the opportunity to influence decision-making, lead cross-departmental initiatives, and foster collaboration among diverse operational units. Summary of Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership and Department Support: Provide operational leadership for assigned library departments responsible for collections, technical services, archives, technology support, and related operational functions. Work with and provide supervision and support to department leaders to clarify operational expectations, monitor departmental performance, support accountability, and maintain efficient, effective, and customer-focused library services. Represent the operational perspectives and needs of assigned departments by providing operational expertise and information during administrative planning and decision-making. Communicate approved library priorities, facilitate collaboration among operational departments, and coordinate consistent implementation of administrative decisions.
  • Operational Coordination, Communication, and Project Implementation: Coordinate implementation of library projects, operational improvements, and administrative initiatives across assigned departments. Work collaboratively with department leaders to improve workflows, strengthen coordination, resolve operational issues, and support continuous improvement. Serve as a member of the library's administrative team by providing operational expertise, representing assigned departments, supporting implementation of library priorities, and communicating operational needs to support administrative planning, coordination, and informed decision-making. Coordinate communication and information sharing among operational departments, represent the library on assigned committees, and collaborate with university departments to support effective library operations and services.
  • Facilities, Safety, and Building Operations: Coordinate building operations, facilities communication, accessibility, safety planning, and maintenance activities to help ensure the library provides a safe, functional, accessible, and welcoming environment for students, employees, and visitors. Communicate facilities needs with university partners, coordinate repairs and operational improvements, and monitor building conditions to support effective library operations.
  • Emergency Preparedness and Business Continuity: Maintain the librarys emergency response plan and ensure emergency procedures remain current and aligned with university protocols. Coordinate emergency preparedness training, maintain emergency equipment and supplies, collaborate with university public safety personnel, and serve as Building Marshal during emergency situations. Perform other job related duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Graduation from an ALA-accredited institution with a Master of Library Science degree (or equivalent) is required, and a minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in academic library management, including supervisory responsibilities in one or more of the following areas: acquisitions, technical services, archives, library technology, or related operational functions.

About Company

Utah Valley University was established in 1941 as Central Utah Vocational School (CUVS) with the primary function of providing war production training. CUVS was part of the Provo School District located in south Provo. The institution received a state appropriation in March 1945 of $50,000 to operate for the 1945-1947 biennium. In 1947, the school received funding as a permanent state institution. A new site for the school was acquired on University Avenue in Provo in 1948; in the 1952, the state appropriated funding for the first construction on that site. As enrollments grew, the state acquired over 185 acres in southwest Orem and the first building was completed in 1977. Today, the University’s facilities consist of a combined total of 412 acres with 50 buildings with campuses in Orem, Provo, and Heber City and property in Vineyard and at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi.
