    Job Description

    The Assistant Director for Student Veteran and Military Recruiting manages and oversees recruitment activities by developing and implementing strategic plans to recruit transfer, Veteran, current military personnel, and military family member students to Syracuse University. This position serves as the campus-wide resource providing expertise, guidance and support to the University, College, and School recruiting efforts, admissions, and financial aid offices and prepares reports regarding recruitment and admission of Veterans, currently serving military students, and family members. S/he develops and implements a transfer and Veteran recruiting training strategy designed to train Syracuse University field recruiters nationally and globally.

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor's degree required
    • Three years of recruiting or equivalent experience in a four-year private university setting.
    • Experience working with military and veteran populations preferred.
    • Prior/Current Active-Duty Military, Reserve, National Guard service preferred
    • A valid driver's license.
    • A valid passport.

    Skills and Knowledge

    • Previous experience with Military Junior Colleges or ROTC recruitment
    • Understanding of Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC), Army Green-to-Gold, Air Force Senior Enlisted Leadership Commissioning Program or similar programs.
    • Strong organizational, oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
    • Knowledge of higher education and student support services and programs
    • Computer literacy required, particularly Microsoft Office Suite
    • Strong knowledge of advanced sourcing techniques such as social media

    Responsibilities

    Serve as the primary recruiter for students at the four Military Junior Colleges:

    • Visit each of the four Military Junior Colleges in the fall to provide an admissions overview specific to ECP applicants highlighting the unique benefits and requirements of the program
    • Plan the annual Early Commissioning Program (ECP) Weekend on campus
    • Coordinate pre-admission transfer credit evaluations for each ECP applicant to ensure they can graduate in the required two year timeframe
    • Plan / execute yield events, both at the MJCs and on campus, to increase the number of enrolled ECP students
    • Maintain a budget for this population

    Manage a first year recruitment territory, planning yield events to increase enrollment:

    • Coordinate visits to high schools in the territory based on the number of applicants and enrolled students over a three year period
    • Coordinate virtual visits to all high schools you are unable to attend in that territory
    • Conduct large scale virtual opportunities for students unable to attend the in person or virtual events
    • Build relationships with high school counselors in the territory in order to keep them informed about opportunities offered by Syracuse University
    • Meet students from your territory when the come to campus for a visit
    • As required, plan yield events/participate in new student send offs in the assigned territory

    Assist the Director of Transfer and Veteran Admissions in all programmatic activities for the recruitment of all other military-connected populations:

    • Represent the university at recruitment events and conferences
    • Serve as a campus-wide resource by providing expertise and guidance on military-connected students

    Serve as a primary application reviewer for military-connected, transfer and first year applications for admission

    • Read applications for admission for the fall semester as assigned
    • Read applications for admission for the spring semester as assigned
