Assistant Director of Athletics, Physical Education Teacher & Coach

The Winsor School is an independent girls' school for academically promising and motivated students in grades five through twelve. Winsor strives to create an environment of respect and inclusion. The School is currently seeking a full-time Assistant Director of Athletics to start in the fall of 2026.

Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Assistant Director of Athletics plays a key leadership role in the daily operations of the athletics program. Strong candidates will have experience in athletics administration and physical education and, ideally, at least three years working in an athletic department at the secondary or collegiate level. The position includes teaching sections of Lower School physical education, coaching two interscholastic sports and supervising the School's state-of-the-art fitness facility.

The Assistant Director of Athletics assumes broad operational responsibility for the department, including scheduling, game management, transportation, communications, equipment and uniform oversight, and coaching support. This role works in close partnership with the Director of Athletics on strategic goals, staff development, and building a dynamic and competitive athletic culture across all levels of the program. The position may also involve additional organizational responsibilities depending on the needs of the department. Our teachers and coaches typically advise a group of middle school students and assume other supervisory duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; 3–5 years of relevant experience in athletics administration, coaching, or a related field, preferably in an independent school or secondary education setting

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to work independently, intuitively, and collaboratively in a fast-paced athletics environment

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interact professionally and tactfully with student-athletes, families, coaches, officials, and school leadership

  • Ability to remain calm, flexible, and solutions-focused while managing competing priorities across a busy athletics calendar

  • Appropriate professional boundaries and a clear understanding of the responsibilities inherent in working with adolescents

  • A demonstrated commitment to community and inclusion work

  • Afternoon, evening, and weekend availability as required by the athletics schedule

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in interscholastic athletics administration, including scheduling, game management, and league coordination (EIL/ISL/NEPSAC familiarity a plus)

  • Coaching experience at the middle or high school level; experience coaching two or more sports preferred

  • Physical education teaching experience or relevant certification

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and athletics management platforms (e.g., FinalForms, ArbiterSports, HUDL)

  • Experience managing athletics websites, digital communications, and social media platforms

  • Familiarity with the college recruitment process and supporting student-athletes through that experience

Work Environment and Physical Demands
 

  • Frequent talking, listening, walking, sitting and standing 

  • Able to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively 

  • Position requiring mobility, including bending, lifting (up to 25 lbs.), pushing, walking

  • Use of hands and fingers to manipulate office equipment, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. Must be capable of standing and/or sitting at a computer for extended periods of time, be capable of repetitive movements of wrists, hands and fingers 

  • Must be capable of occasionally carrying and moving small objects
