Position Description:

This is a full-time 10-month administrative position in a CSWE accredited undergraduate social work program. The program is seeking candidates with effective administrative and/or community organizing skills to coordinate the internship experience for the social work program as well as develop and manage special programs.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Plans for, recruits, screens, develops, and maintains quality field placement opportunities in Willimantic and around the State of Connecticut with input from faculty and students with final approval from the Program Coordinator.
  • Coordinates field education placements for BSW students and volunteer experiences for pre-social work students, including one-on-one interviews with students.
  • Assists the Program Coordinator with updates and revises policies, procedures, and field applications as governed by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).

Supports faculty, field instructors, field supervisors and students in problem-solving field related issues.

  • Creates cohorts of students to be assigned to faculty seminar instructors and communicates with the registrar about these decisions.
  • Provides academic advising for all pre-social work majors.
  • Coordinates and develops senior orientation. Also coordinates and develops orientation and workshops for field instructors.
  • Coordinates collection of site visit field reports during fall and again in spring semesters.
  • Collect information for purpose of evaluation.
  • Maintains database with up-to-date information on field sites and field supervisors.
  • Actively participates in relevant department meetings and any other meetings as directed to attend.
  • Coordinates special programming for BSW students.
  • Coordinates outreach efforts to maintain relationships with alumni and recruit new students.
  • Performs other duties related to those enumerated above that do not alter the basic level of responsibility of this position.

Qualifications:

MSW degree. A minimum of three (3) years of experience in higher education, teaching in undergraduate or graduate programs and/or working in field education and supervisory and practice experience.

Strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills, ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders. Capacity for working independently, for problem-solving, for supporting student retention. These qualifications may be waived for individuals with appropriate alternate experience.

Compensation and Employee Benefits

The Assistant Director of Field Education and Special Programs is compensated at the Administrator III salary level in accordance with the State University Organization of Administrative Faculty (SUOAF).
