Purpose:          The Assistant Director of Housekeeping supports the Director of Housekeeping in directing daily operations of the Housekeeping department.

The Assistant Director of Housekeeping supports the Director of Housekeeping in managing all aspects of the Housekeeping department to ensure the highest standards of cleanliness, guest satisfaction, and operational efficiency.

This role involves supervising staff, maintaining inventory, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards, and stepping in as the acting director in the absence of the Director of Housekeeping.

JOB SUMMARY:   

• Assist in overseeing daily operations of the housekeeping department, including guest rooms, public areas, laundry, and back-of-house
• Assist in cleaning guest and public spaces
• Making beds, changing sheets, washing towels, and assisting with general laundry tasks
• Assist in the completion of deep-cleaning and disinfecting bathrooms and kitchens, including toilets, sinks, showers, and appliances
• Replenish soap, toilet paper, paper towels, and other consumable necessities in guest and public areas
• Supervise, train, and motivate housekeeping team members to ensure productivity and service excellence
• Conduct daily room inspections and quality control audits to maintain cleanliness standards
• Help manage scheduling, payroll, and attendance tracking for housekeeping staff
• Address guest complaints or requests promptly and professionally
• Maintain adequate inventory of cleaning supplies, linens, and equipment; place orders as needed
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, sanitation policies, and hotel procedures
• Assist with onboarding and performance reviews for housekeeping staff
• Collaborate with the Front Office and Engineering teams to ensure smooth room turnovers and efficient operations
• Monitor and report any maintenance issues or safety hazards
• Fosters high morale, promotes a positive work environment built on effective communication and mutual respect for one another
• Promote teamwork and motivation through daily communication
• Communicate and enforce policies and procedures
• Conduct pre-shift meetings and review all information pertinent to the day’s activities
• Ensure that special guest requests are met in an efficient manner
• Manage and monitor key control systems to ensure security
• Monitor sound procedures for Lost and Found
• Other duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

• Ability to remain standing for up to 10 hours
• Ability to remain stationary in desk/meeting environment for up to 8 hours
• Ability to move up and down stairs
• Ability to move quickly based on guest needs
• Ability to communicate and exchange information effectively
• Ability to complete a satisfactory background check
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as business requires

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

• Work will primarily take place in a hotel resort environment

KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• 2+ years of experience in a supervisory housekeeping role
• Working knowledge of hotel PMS software, Opera and Actabl (Alice) preferred
• Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
• Excellent customer service and communications skills
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, as business requires
• Must know how to prioritize, delegate, and respond in a timely fashion
• Ability to work under pressure, multi-task, and stay focused while maintaining hospitality
