    About the Role: Assistant Director of Human Resources

    As our Assistant Director of Human Resources, you will play an integral role in supporting an exceptional employee and guest experience while contributing to a collaborative and high-performing team environment.

    This role is ideal for someone who brings a passion for hospitality, takes ownership, and is committed to continuous improvement, employee engagement, and results. You will partner closely with hotel leadership, employees, and union representatives to ensure fair, consistent, and compliant HR practices.

    Your Impact

    You will support day-to-day HR operations, employee relations, labor relations, compliance, and team performance. You’ll act as a bridge between leadership, frontline teams, and union representatives—driving accountability, engagement, and positive labor-management relationships.

    What You’ll Be Doing

    Operations & Execution

    • Support efficient HR operations aligned with company standards and applicable CBAs.
    • Partner with leaders on staffing, employee issues, and HR processes.
    • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

    Employee Experience

    • Promote a positive, respectful, and engaging workplace.
    • Support employee engagement, development, and retention.
    • Respond to employee needs with a solutions-focused approach.

    Team Collaboration

    • Partner with leadership, employees, and union representatives.
    • Coach leaders on employee relations and labor matters.
    • Promote open communication, accountability, and teamwork.

    Compliance & Standards

    • Ensure compliance with company policies, employment laws, and applicable CBAs.
    • Maintain accurate HR documentation and employee records.
    • Support consistent application of policies and contractual requirements.

    Key Responsibilities

    Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning

    • Manage recruitment in partnership with department leaders.
    • Support sourcing, interviewing, selection, and onboarding.
    • Ensure hiring practices align with company and union requirements.

    Employee Experience & Training

    • Coordinate new hire orientation and employee training.
    • Support cross-training, development, and engagement initiatives.
    • Partner with leaders to identify training needs.

    Employee Relations & Labor Management

    • Serve as a trusted advisor to employees, leaders, and union representatives.
    • Administer applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs).
    • Support grievances, investigations, disciplinary actions, and labor-management meetings.
    • Ensure employee relations matters are handled fairly, consistently, and in accordance with company policy and CBA requirements.
    • Foster positive and professional union-management relationships.

    Compliance, Documentation & Benefits Administration

    • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records.
    • Support compliance with labor laws, company policies, and CBAs.
    • Assist employees with benefits, leave, and insurance-related questions.
    • Support unemployment claims, workers’ compensation, and workplace safety initiatives.
    • Audit documentation related to hiring, compensation, promotions, discipline, and separations.

    Technical / Role-Specific Requirements

    • Experience working in a unionized hotel environment is necessary; experience working with UNITE HERE Local 11 is strongly preferred.
    • Strong understanding of labor relations, union contracts, and disciplinary procedures within union frameworks strongly preferred
    • Knowledge of employment laws, HR best practices, and hospitality operations
    • Fluent in both Spanish and English, with the ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal forms necessary with strong translation and interpretation skills preferred.
    • Strong decision-making capabilities with a track record of driving initiatives and improving processes in a unionized environment.
    • Demonstrated initiative in leading complex projects and implementing innovative HR strategies.
    • Effective conflict resolution and negotiation skills, ensuring fair and consistent application of policies.
    • Experience leading organizational change initiatives and driving continuous improvement in HR practices.

    Education

    • High school diploma or equivalent with 3+ years of progressive human resources experience in a hospitality or service-driven environment OR Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field with 1+ year of relevant HR experience
